Did a silly today. I didn't take on enough energy food last night or this morning before training. Legs day today too I was weak as a baby and had to drop the squat bar 25% just to finish my sets. Then afterwards I had tightness and discomfort in my lumbar spine. I think I was basically just too weak and ballsed up my technique.

As I write I am flying on codeine / ibuprofen and have a heat pack on my lower back. I intend not to squat again for 7-10 days. I am annoyed with myself because I have been injury free for 6 months despite training hard.

Any other advice to aid recovery chaps?

You be needing to rub on turpentine and dock leaves, then chew dandelions...

Or you might get better advice on the medical/health forum, or whatever it's called.

Sorry, it's a real bummer, I know. Good luck for a speedy recovery...smile

Did you round your back hugely? Any clunks or clicks?

Not a doctor - just currently having an experience of doing my back in. It's worth seeing someone about if it's painful for more than a few days, thats for sure.

Hurt mine Deadlifting a few years ago (hyperextended on a 2x bodyweight) and am now awaiting an MRI as it's still not right after 2+ years of physio...

Alternate between heat pack and cold pack.
See a good osteopath for some proper treatment.

Ice! Not heat! There will be swelling in the muscles, and my physio told me to always put ice on initially to reduce the swelling. I've pulled or twisted my back a few times now. I used to get myself home and lie in a hot bath, until I was told otherwise. The recent occasions, I've nipped to the shop on the way from the gym, bought a bag of ice, and laid it on the small of my back, turning occasionally. I just lie on the rug in front of the telly until the ice has all but melted! Haha.
