So I fell off my MTB two weeks ago, not a big fall but I put my left wrist down in the fall. Now there was some light pain in my wrist thought I'd sprained it and carried on for the rest of the day with a mild twinge!!

The pain was focused on the outside of my palm but this has shifted down to my where the ulna bone meets the wrist, maybe lunate/pisiform areas (if I look at Google images), there's no bruising also.

I'm still able to ride with some discomfort (motorbikes also) and drive, putting the handbrake on hurts and even exercise isn't too bad but there are days where it seems to hurt more than others.

I doubt it's broken/fractured (I've broken plenty of bones) but I dunno what to do, I've got a cheap wrist support which does help but maybe I need a pukka one or maybe I need to go to A&E?

I'm hoping the collective knowledge on here may throw some light onto things

Best to just go and get it x-rayed. It could be nothing, or it could be your scaphoid. I've known a ton of scaphoid injuries and they can vary between the clear stabbing sensation of a properly broken bone through to a dull ache. It's a complete arse to heal properly as it gets so little bloodflow so the sooner it's checked out the better.

Scaphoid is near your thumb though isn't it? It's on the outside of my palm (other side)

If you've had an accident then A&E is for you.

Examination - Xrays - Follow-up - Fracture clinic/wrist surgeon - MRI or MRA

Somesort of mixture of the above.

Ulna side of the wrist in a fall as you describe can be number of things

get it looked at by someone who understands that picture above, unless it settles quickly.

That's the area, seems to settle down a little then gets worse (after excercise) which is why I'm going to take a week or two off.

Looks like the triangular fibrocartilage complex from the diagram which is giving me grief, thanks

Get an x-ray done. I have a wrist injury in the same area, which I think was caused by a drill jamming and twisting my wrist round violently, several times.

Apparently one of the tendons isn't sitting where it should and catches on the ulna. You can see it happen and it makes a noticeable clicking noise when I twist my arm. It causes me a lot of discomfort if I use my left hand and it will eventually cause my hand to "seize up"!

I was booked in for an op, to basically carve out a channel in one of the bones to make somewhere for the tendon to sit. But I cancelled as I couldn't afford the time off work.

FWIW, my injury didn't show up on X-ray and took 18 months and 3 doctors to figure out what the problem was!

To be fair, the first 2 to see me were a GP and a Physio. The first Doctor/specialist I saw at a hospital diagnosed it instantly.
The GP and Physio had never seen anything like it!

When I managed a give myself a perilunate dislocation a few years back, it took a few docs to find/diagnose it.
It's not that common an injury.

Any update on the original injury Freak?

Well it does seem to be getting somewhat better, I don't honestly think I've broken it but my problem is I'm pretty active so I'm not letting it heal.

So I took the decision after this original post to buy a decent wrist support (arrived yesterday) and not do any exercise/training activities that put my hands under pressure. So far so good, if I get to the weekend and it's improving still I'll take it as nothing more than that and not train for another week or so.

Cheers

Sounds exactly like the problem I've been having.

The pain is located around the outer boney bit of my left wrist, it only seems to hurt when I rotate the wrist, rather than flex it up and down. I broke it 5/6 years ago and it seems to flare up occasionally.

Like you I'm quite active, so I'm struggling to not aggravate it. A decent wrist support has been helping but it is still quite painful after 2 weeks. I imagine kickboxing is probably not helping....

Think I'll leave it another week and if it is still bad then I'll pop to the walk in centre.
