Anyone had Corticosteroid injections?

Guys,
I have a persistant shoulder injury - coming up to a year now.
Have had physio for a few months and got all movement & strength back but still have pain in the joint.

Going to see the consultant tonight for corticosteroid injections into the joint.

Not too bothered about the injections - never had a problem with needles.

Apparently I've got to have 2 days of complete rest - no work, physical activity or anything, in fact nothing other than watching Topgear repeats on Dave.....

Anyone else had these (injection not Topgear repeats....)?

How quickly did they take effect?

Any side effects other than those listed on the info sheet I got handed a couple of weeks back?

Was planning on getting out on the bike hitting Cannock Chase Saturday morning for a couple of hours as not ridden for 2 weeks with holidays etc. but need to check with the consultant - as I'm one of those 'yeah it feels OK so I'll carry on' type people.

I've had the injections - into my spine.

The procedure is straightforward enough, mine were done with x-ray guidance. It was quite painful though.

I got some relief for about 2 weeks, the pain was dampened down rather than cured but my condition is quite complex.

Everyone is different but it is not a cure - it is pain management.

As far as side-effects go, I didn't have any. Nor was I told to rest after the injections.

I hope it works for you. I won't be having any more. The benefits for me are limited and I'm also wary of the long term effects of multiple injections.

I had one to break the cycle of inflammation that had occurred with a tendon injury in my foot. It is quite painful. However, you can feel the benefit within 24 hours, sometimes less.

It's strong medicine.

looking for some insight into this myself.

I'd frozen shoulder (or so I was told) and eventually it cleared up to a reasonably manageable level but I really suffered for months.

However the last few weeks I've been in a lot of pain again and my new Doc suggested an injection.

Don't want to bother if it's not worth it.

Had Tendonitis in my left elbow. Went for the injections and due to the local anaesthetic in the solution it didn't hurt too much. The next day my fking elbow hurt so much that I wanted to chew my arm off above the elbow and throw the fker away! Not a wink of sleep either, taking every painkiller I could.

Day after that everything settled right down.

Had the injection last night and it was more uncomfortable than painful.

Felt like I'd been kicked in the shoulder after a couple of hours.

Had a good nights sleep and pain was less than I expected.

Joint pain feels less than it was - feeling more bruised than anything.

Have to give it 6-8 weeks to see how it goes, if any more problems will be refered to the surgical team.
