Well I'm due my vasectomy operation at the end of the month redface, and the thing bothering me the most is not a doctor coming at my plums with a sharp knife, but the fact he has told be that I'll not be able to go to the gym for 4 weeks.eek

A little back ground is that almost a year ago today I got my flabby ass to the gym, started to eat well and have been pretty much 3 times a week ever since. the result is 2 stone lost and firm bits where flabby bits used to be, I've had alot of help lurking in various threads in the Health Section and due to a few prominent posters on here in the last month have cut down the cardio and started to "lift heavy".

So, I'm terrified I'm going to lose my gains, my motivation and turn into truffle shuffle boy again.

Any tips for staying trim, has anyone gone through this on here before?

Should I use the time to really watch what I'm eating and cut back my weight a bit, or try a bit of lifting after a couple of weeks but no cardio?

Or should I just buy a DVD box set and hit the dirty takeaway thread hard for a month, giving me motivation after my hiatus?

Anyone thoughts/input would be great, thanks.

It will do you good to have a rest anyway. Just watch what you eat and you will be ok.

Ive had to have a few forced offs due to injury over the last year or so. Half of them my own fault tbh trying to get back on it before i was fully recovered and doing damage again. Its a fecking pain in the arse but you cant do anything about it.

Rather you than me having your plumbs slashed - good luck biggrin

I wouldn't worry too much.
I've been off regular gym and kickboxing classes for around four months due to injury.
I've not been any more careful with food and drink than I was (though I do generally eat quite healthy) and I've only put on about four pounds, so I'll easily shift it again when I get back into it.

I certainly wouldn't revert to old habits. Go easy with what you eat. Do some walking or try some tai chi.

I think it'll be very difficult to lose your gains over only 4 weeks. When you get back to it, you won't be lifting quite as heavy but it'll soon come back (a few weeks or so I reckon) and you'll soon be back to normal.

I'd just rest up and eat healthy for those 4 weeks if I were you. The last thing you want is to injure your plums further and put yourself out of action for months!

haha, I could have written this post myself.

I had a Vasectomy a week last monday, and, like you I was worrying about an enforced lay off from the gym.

Monday, Tuesday I did nothing, had a cold compress, laid horizontal and wore supportive pants. This is important.

Wednesday I was back at work, with supportive pants.

Thursday much the same.

Friday I went back in the gym for some light weight work, do not, I repeat, do not be tempted to run or cycle. Any localised trauma at this point is bad times.

Also hit the gym Sunday and ventured back on a bike Monday (1 week after).

Its now Wednesday and Im back up to full training, full weights again with very 'slight' pain from the netherregions but seriously nothing major (doesnt even warrent Ibruprofen).

4 weeks will be fine.
I've had breaks that long, return to it thinking it's all gone to pot but after about a week, you seem to come back stronger and keener.

Thanks everyone for the input, I'm a bit more chilled out about the break now, and might sneak a lift or two after a couple of weeks if my balls are behaving themselves.

I could just see October being over, then no motivation in November, bang Christmas is upon us and I'm breaking out the elasticated trousers.
