As a general rule the ceiling joists aren't meant to take too much load hence you shouldn't store too much stuff in your loft.

I hope the OP has considered this / had the necessary reinforcement done before shifting all that weight lifting gear up there biggrin

And as mentioned, this time of year - nice and cool, summertime - sauna.

I would suggest that the area you train in, is directly above a solid interior wall and not a stud wall. wink

Doesn't matter right now - keeps him fit and pumped up during the winter months.

Dont worry guys,im a builder,so ive done the necessary work, plus the bench & weights are directly above a solid brick wall.
It might get too hot in the summer,so I may chuck a couple of velux windows in,see how it goes.
Here's the other end of the gym.

IN the picture with the chin up bar, I've always been worried about fixing to brick walls. Is the idea to bolt into or between the bricks?

Ive bolted it to the bricks,& they've held nicely,I weigh 86kgs,although it all depends on the bricks & the mortar, the bricks in my building are quite dense with a shallow frog,so are good for fixing into, some bricks have a larger frog,or holes that dont fill evenly with mortar, meaning you have pockets of space that dont make for a good fixing point.

Very true, it must be one of the emptiest lofts with the least weight!

You could get a pull up and dip station that's free standing if bolting to a wall is a problem. Not much more than £100 these days.

I wouldn't bolt into mortar that's for sure.

Where are the boxes of Christmas decorations?

And what does it say behind the white towel, let me guess…Bad Boyz Gym/Steel St Gym/Press aloft Gym ?

The first picture makes me itch, how the fluk do you train with all that fiberglass everywhere.

Anyway, all work in progress I guess, keep going....I'm jealous my loft is full of " Just in case " shi7e.
The wizard of Oz is behind the white curtain.
The fiberglass isn't a problem,no itching whatsoever,I only had enough boards to do what you see,but I'll do the rest as & when,as you say,it's a work in progress, need to get a couple of 20kg plates, couple of 15kgs as well.

Hmm. Nice idea, but the internet is a bit of a bummer of a place for getting a seemingly good idea critised... OTOH shared knowledge could just save your life.

The Bowflex's look like the only decent bit of equipment there, assuming they're quite old - the breakable Chinese copies are usually in lbs, apart from old originals. OEM's are in Kgs these days.

That BB bench also looks horribly flimsy. I'm guessing it's a York or Maximuscle. Probably not able to take your weight + the Bowflex's? Some cheap tat isn't even capable of supporting 100kg (user + weights).

But it's your lunges I fear for. Heavy breathing + fibreglass environment = not a good idea! : http://www.livestrong.com/article/124778-fiberglas...
