Hypnotherapist - Quit smoking
Discussion
Thinking of buying my other half a session/sessions with a hypnotherapist for her Birthday. She's 100% on board with wanting to quit smoking so I'm hoping she'd be receptive. I noticed that the NHS sites there is no conclusive evidence that this therapy works but I would be interested to hear from anyone who has gone down this route regardless of outcome.
If successful who did you use? Seems to be a competitive market in the Bristol (our) area alone. Cheers.

My wife and I quite 10 years ago. I was 20 a day and stopped the moment I walked out of the office. The hypnotherapist used NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming). It wasn't cheap for a 45 minute session - £300 as I recall, but totally worth it for us.
A mate also had a go and it completely failed - he went back several times and eventually got his money back, most offer a guarantee.

I smoked for a very long time, and decided it was time to stop. Somebody I knew recommended hypnotherapy, I figured it was a load of hippy nonsense but thought it may be worth a punt though.
£40 and 1 hour of my time later I was a non smoker! I didn't particularly believe that it was going to work, but I was pleasantly surprised when it did.
The only drawback for me is that it works so well, I have started smoking again a couple of times (after a good few years) partly because I know how well it works and how easy it is to stop again!
The non smoking seems to last for 3 - 5 years + after the hypnotherapy. I tend to start smoking again if I am on holiday and have a pint or two. The good thing about it though is that having now had 3 doses of hypnotherapy over the last 15 years or so, I now find it very easy to give up smoking without hypnotherapy. In fact, I am considering booking a session before my next holiday to help me to not actually start in the first place, rather than smoking for a couple of months and then quitting

I'm glad I'm not the only one - after 10 years of not smoking at all, the odd crafty one has been consumed after a few beers. I need to knock it on the head before it gets out of hand.I was totally amazed at how well it worked - I was given the session as a gift, delayed going as I didn't really want to stop. Came out from it with my trusty Embassy No1s still in my pocket - looked at the packet and thought "Na" and threw them in the bin on the way back to the car. Stopped smoking immediately, no withdrawals, nothing.
3 years on, and as others have said it was so effective I did have the odd smoke with a beer after a few months - and still do, but my 25 a day habit is long gone.

Well done to all of those who have been successful using hypnotherapy. I didn't go down that route instead I went on Champnix tablets. Two weeks after the first tablet my 20 a day Red Marlboro habit I had had for 25 years was a thing of the past. I took the tablets for a total of 8 weeks and the only side effect were some very vivid dreams. Now I really detest the smell of a cigarette but probably detest the smell of a smoker more.
I stopped 4 months ago and was worried about putting on weight. I bought myself a new bike and also joined a gym. Now 10Kgs lighter and 3" off my waist I just wish I had done it years ago.
Good luck to all of you trying to kick the habit.
