Nutritionist or Gastro Consultant?
Discussion
Hi all, just need some help. My sister has recovered from horrendous Pneumonia but because she lay in bed for about 3 months but was eating like horse now has terrible terrible acid reflux. She is 5ft 7in tall and now only weighs 49 kilos.
She has had an endoscopy (all fine) and the reflux is controlled with drugs. I take her to see nutritionist every 3 or 4 weeks but her diet is so fat and protein free that she is just not putting on weight. She says she feels full after a tiny amount of food, has no energy and has no appetite.
Does anyone have any advice? I am struggling to keep her chin up. She has been ill for about 7 months now and is finding it difficult to keep going. Her next appt with consultant is not for 3 weeks. He is away at moment but I will bring appt forward by a a week if I can.
Any advice or experience or even name of nutritionist in Kent who specialises in Reflux?
Thanks
S

I am really very sorry to hear about your sister. My suggestion is as follows.
Contact the Gastro team at Princess Grace Hospital in London as a self referal.
You need to ask for a holistic program... they will put the right team together.. Gastro, Nutrition, Endo etc etc..
You may not be insured and yes it will be expensive, but it will be quick and will get to the bottom of the problem asap.

Need a dietician not a nutritionist (anyone can call themselves a nutritionist).
They may consider inserting a naso-gastric tube for feeding or naso-jejunal tube (in the extreme).
Putting on weight following illness can be very difficult and not something that can always be solved with a bottle of complan or ensure.
