Regular sight tests after laser surgery

i had lasik surgery about 5 years ago and wondered if i should be having specialist sight tests or if normal ones will do? I'd have thought they needed to do extra checks, but maybe not. I could go back to Ultralase but i think it's £25 for an aftercare visit after they folded and re-started last year.
it's fantastic, apparently i got just about the best result i could have received. They described it as "better than 20/20 vision" but basically it was near enough zero prescription in both eyes. I did pay for the top option though, the wavefront one where they account for imperfections and astigmatism - IIRC it was £5k. 5 years down the line I still don't need glasses and i don't think my eyes have deteriorated, but I am 37 this month so it's probably not too far off.
So, I'd recommend getting it done, it's been great. The internet however is full of people who haven't had as good an experience, and you can't replace your eyes. I'd recommend paying top money though, for the same reason. I guess you only hear about the bad experiences because people don't tend to bang on about good ones, as with everything.
Annoyingly Ultralase who i used went bust a couple of years ago and were bought out by Optimax. I've found that they're refusing to honour the lifetime guarantees even though they appear to have kept the Ultralase branding. I think they basically closed the company and restarted under a slightly different name. Shame because they were really good. Apart from when a lightbulb exploded in the pre-op room and the nurse tried to convince me not to get it done as it was an omen! I had to calm her down, when she was meant to be there to do that for me!
Op is weird sensation, over very quickly. Looks like star trek deep space warp drive and smell like burning chicken. They say you can see immediately afterwards, and whilst that's true you're complete photophobic so you may as well be blind for that 24hrs afterwards. Basically just wear a face mask and go to bed, they give you all the stuff.

I've never been back for a sight test in the 6 years since I've had it done. Im 43 now and feel I might have to get checked out soon as I have noticed it's getting a bit more tricky reading the small stuff close up. They said the need for reading glasses doesn't chsnge after surgery so I think my time has come.
Would recommend it though just wish I got it done when I was younger.
