Anyone experienced a shoulder impingement, and had rapid and successful treatment?

Bashed my shoulder a couple of months ago and been "impinged" ever since (enough pain to make even the most powerfully-built goatee-wearer cry, especially at night). The wheels of the NHS turn slowly but I'm now at the point where X-ray has confirmed no fractures or bone spurs causing issues and Ultrasound shows no tears to soft tissue; just inflammation of the tendons.

Looking at 3 possible options :-

- Steriod injection into the joint
- Physiotherapy (traditional form)
- "Full Movement Method" (alternative physio, as I have someone local who does this)

I've previously had a similar episode with the right shoulder that was eventually resolved with a decompression op to remove bone spurs (not present in the left). Steroid injections for that did nothing but cause me extra pain for 6-8 weeks so I'm not all that keen on doing that again...

Anyone had this and been fixed? Very grateful for any input or recommendations.

Thanks in advance, Dave

Dave, I see from your other post that you are in Dorset, I use a chiro called Afon House in Salisbury, speak to Sandy, I've been pretty sceptical about this sort of treatment in the past (the wife has used her and I finally rtelented), but she combines chiro with physio, I had a shoulder problem following a bike off, it had been troubling me for several weeks, after one treatment I was back in the gym that night.

Rest. Deep stretching. Weighted exercises gradually bringing the shoulder back up to normal strength.

As above.

If there is a movement that epecially hurts, limit that or stop it for a while. Unless it's muscular, an impinged shoulder can usually be improved with rest and/or corrective movement.
