Haha I had to Google it.

I don't have a big heart, not a big frame 5'6.

Unfitty checking in at 60.

I started a fitness regime yesterday - Mrs Pints insists on it - so I'll check back in three months from now to see how that's worked out.
I'm also aiming to lose 10% weight.

Point taken, but I still unfit compared to several years ago when I was doing 60 km cycle rides every other weekend and playing hockey matches twice a week.

That feels like a lifetime ago, especially when I'm now feeling a bit out of breath after a few flights of stairs.

And my BMI has recently tipped into the "overweight" category, hence the need to lose a few kilos.

That'll be good for most people. But proper athletes will always fall foul of joe public focused charts I think.

Its an arbitrary amount. It's effectively another muscle in your body. Dependent on:
Body shape, size
How much fat you have
How efficient your body is getting the blood round
Your breathing efficiency
Stress levels

The more you train it the stronger it becomes.

In my opinion:
Heavy weight lifting helps with stroke volume.
Running and cycling help with efficiency.

Why would heavy weight lifting help with stroke volume then?

Surely the thing that helps is anything that places strain on the heart to pump blood about, which could be weight lifting, it could be running, cycling, skiing x country etc etc...
