A decent breakfast
Discussion
All - I have had a search, but with H search being what it is etc.
I am aware of the basics of a decent diet, cutting back on things like bread, pasta and rice, and plenty of veg etc.
Unfortunately my limited imagination can work all of this easily into lunch and dinner - however, I have got into the habit of toast or cereal for breakfast - I tend to get up at 6 and be out of the house at 7 on a weekday - I cycle 12 miles to work to or 3 days a week.
What decent, healthy breaky works for everyone on here?

Porridge - easily done in the microwave
I tend to have Shreddies and a banana sliced on top - but sometimes have Weetabix or porridge when I don't have any bananas. Try to also have a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice as well and if I've any left over fruit that needs using up, that too
Sometimes I progress onto a cooked breakfast...

Fruit salad and/or fruit and yoghurt
Or porridge is quick and easy as mentioned above
I prefer to have a decent breakfast, something like scrambled eggs or mushrooms on toast, then have something lighter ( eg soup) in the evening unless I'm out. Otherwise you end up snacking mid morning or having a big lunch anyway

Weekdays: porridge
Weekend recipe (brunch):
Blend half avocado, large tablespoon fat free yoghurt and add in some chopped chives.
Scramble two eggs
2 slices of lo-cal brown toast
100g either smoked or poached salmon
Spread blended avocado mix onto toast (no butter). Put scrambled egg + salmon on top.
Approx 400 cals + 35g protein.
It's lush, and healthy.

Depends on your requirements really, no? If you sit at a desk your needs will be rather different to a brick layer.
Eating within an hour of waking may not even be desirable.
I sit at a desk so my requirements are pretty minimal unless it's a gym day or something. Most week days I skip breakfast, maybe a coffee. If it's a gym day maybe porridge and/or scrambled eggs. Weekends I sometimes enjoy a good fry-up.
As for bread/toast/cereal - they contain calories so will work as fuel but typically nutrient poor so maybe not the best choice.

Agree with that. I too sit at my desk most of the day, so minimal calories expended. I never have breakfast (even on training days), just a coffee or two, protein shake at dinner time (12-1-ish), another 30 mins before training and one after, then my only real meal of the day for tea. Seems to work for me with my particular lifestyle, but as you say, if you are doing manual labour all day, that diet wouldn't be nowhere near enough.Eating within an hour of waking may not even be desirable.

Cheers for replies all.
Unfortunately I cannot stand egg, so that is out. I sit at my desk for the majority of the day. I tend to not have breakfast at home, but couldn't survive to lunch on nothing without getting distraction levels of hungry. Maybe a suitably parsimonious bowl of porridge is the answer.
