since swimming today my right ear has blocked, has been bit cloggy for while now,but never this bad .. docs will hopefully blast it away in few days. Any one got some remedies that work in the mean time. Im out of dynamite !! Drives me crazy every thing is from the wrong direction. Currently got so called ear wax drops not lot of good from past experience.. What who said that ....

If it is a wax build up, a few drops of slightly warm olive oil twice a day for two or three days then get the practice nurse to gently squirt it out. Been there, done that.

My OH has a Clinic which caters for women's stuff... but for clogged ears they use 'ear candles'... I've tried them, its amazing and a bit weird what comes out... they are basically a little like a thick wax coated drinking straw. They lie your head to one side.. a candle is inserted into your ear and then lit with a match... the candle burns down and creates a gentle suction and all the goo comes out into the tube gently.. You'll find them on Amazon..

My right ear completely blocked once and I went the drops followed by syringing route. If I remember correctly it was drops for three days and then to the docs for the syringe. What an amazing feeling that is after a blocked ear, it's pretty much instant relief. I was told the ear burner things were a load of bks, do they really work?

Once you've got the nurse to shift it all use a bi carb of soda solution to purge it out occasionally. I had to take the lad to hospital a few weeks back (local surgery wouldn't syringe out kids ears) they were using alsorts of suction and twigs in his ears to drag it all out.

When I had mine blocked last christmas I bought a load of Otex and used olive oil etc. Nothing worked. When the Otex had finished I basically filled the bottle with warm water and used it to flush the ear. After a couple of goes the massive plug of wax was washed away.

Not sure if it is a good idea but I now, gently, do it every so often to keep them clean.

Given that it occurred directly after swimming, it may not be wax at all, but Swimmers Ear, at least that's what it is called in Australia.
Essentially the irritation of water being in the ear canal whilst swimming causes it to inflame and swell very slightly, hence the blocked ear, and hence why ear drops that soften wax won't do a damn thing.

You can treat it with something like this, which presumably is sold somewhere in the UK:

Ideally put some drops in straight after swimming to remove the water, but it can still help the following day.

tried the link doesnt work will google swimmers ear. may be combi of both that and wax , heard bicaarb will help on the wax side. hopefully being sucked out thursday ...

Had this for a fortnight after returning from holiday a few years back. Eventually went to the local surgery and had everything from seaweed to sand extracted. Felt good.

having the flush out in an hour from gp so by 1600hrs should be able to hear for miles..
driving me insane already and now some ache too. weird as off balance and talking different.
will up date what they wash out !!

Pfft, I've had one feeling blocked for three sodding months now, it's driving me insane

Apparently it isn't blocked but thanks to a rupture the eardrum is now slightly thicker. It'll probably be another few months before it either sorts itself out or my brain maps it out as normal

I had a similar experience about a year ago when the wife brought a pack of them home, and tried one out on me.

In the interests of science, i then lit one and held it at arms length for 5 minutes until it fizzled out. It had the same "goo" inside it, despite being about 2 or 3 feet from the nearest ear.

Total quackery.

back from the gp still blocked after 2 harsh attempts. the wax is really compounded so im told so its another week of drops and the half head of hearing. some small pieces out apparantly but no better to date.... who said that ?? lol

finally today the gp managed to jet wash the wax never seen so much come out of an ear, its been a living hell with one ear out of action really feel for those with permanent ear damage, throws you out big time...
