I've started this recently to try and cut a little fat down.

On days I'm training, I'll have no carbs bar a small amount of green veg throughout the day, then a few scoops of BCAA pre workout 20 min before the gym, followed by a whey/dextrose/creatine shake in the car on the way home. Then about 30 minutes later, a proper meal with rice or pasta.

It's doing the trick so far. The BCAAs help me through the workout and the fat is starting to drop off again (there's not a whole lot but I want to keep on top of it) while strength still goes north.

Just wondering if that looks about right to the more experienced guys?

Do you mean Carb Back Loading by Kiefer?

The plan there is to be ultra low carb, so only veggies unless it is a PW meal. The quantity of carbs PW is based on experience of how you felt after you last back load. The initial PW carb hit is to stop catabolism continuing. The meals later are to refill you glycogen stores in the muscles, ready for the next workout.

So how is it working for you? You have it down at the basic level.

Carb backloading indeed. Not religiously obviously, but have I got the important bit right anyway?

Pretty much, carbs post work out and hold off the first meal until lunch if possible. However, his reasoning is flawed and eating 'bad' carbs often isn't as appealing as you'd think.

Energy in vs energy out is ultimately how to lose weight- timing, diet type etc isn't really important, every single type of diet has studies that support it. (I like IF'in as it's an easy way to limit calories by missing out half of the day) http://examine.com/faq/what-should-i-eat-for-weigh...

I'm not using it as an excuse to eat crap. Post workout meal would generally be meat, veg and rice/pasta or even potatoes on a rare occasion.

I normally have eggs and bacon or a protein shake with added oats and Greek yogurt for breakfast, a small meal around 11 as I'm hungry again, then lunches at 1 and 4. Gym at 6 or 7, meal around 8 or 9.

Since I've started this I've just been having eggs for breakfast (7.30am) and skipping the mid morning meal, no carbs bar green veggies at 1 and 4, then carbing up around 8/9 when I've finished training.

I don't feel any less energetic for it, just always hungry now in the morning. Trying to ensure I keep my protein intake at a decent level.

The only thing wrong with potatoes is when you drop a sack of them on your foot. Stop being a teenage girl.
