Bit of a back story, well I say abit...

I applied to join the army in nov 14, passed the online medical, and dropped from 125kg down to 112, I've hit a brick wall now and need to drop another 7kg before my proper interview, it's around a stone and I need to do it in a month. My diet is ok, as I've managed to drop the initial weight. I'm thinking of joining the gym for a month and rowing x trainer running and bike. Just to try and drop some more. My general fitness is good as I ride 80-100 miles a week aswell as a couple of miles running, but just struggling now. Any help?

Cutting booze to zero has helped me shed weight surprisingly quick - used to have 1 to 2 glasses of red an evening.

You're eating too much, basically. Cut out something. Whether it's booze, carbs or whatever. Easiest way is just to eat half the amount of carbs you normally eat as you will probably not miss it too much.

You are eating to much.

Key rules to loosing weight:

1) Always stay hungry
2) Hunger is a positive feeling, means you are using your fat reserves
3) No eating after 19:00
4) Eat breakfast as early as you can 06:30
5) Go to bed hungry
6) No tea, no coffee. Water is fine
7) No alcohol
8) Fruit and veg is fine
9) No junk food
10) Exercise hungry

After one week you would have lost 2-3kg.

I've just dropped 15lbs in 18 days following a zero (or as close as you can get to zero) carb diet. Basically just meat, eggs and a very little cheese. Not sustainable or at all healthy but job done. Apart from the boredom and cravings the major issue is having no energy so it's very difficult to do any meaningful training.

I'm sorry but, completely disagree.
I've lost 12kg on eating what I want (but still clean) and enjoyed takeaways over 9 1/2 weeks, I eat sometimes 11pm and go to bed @ 1am. I'm also very rarely hungry.
I also have energy drinks as pre workout (similar to tea/coffee).

The only reason I haven't lost more is because I'm trying to avoid going over 1kg a week to minimise strength/muscle loss.

Works for me...some stats:
61kg.
Bench-press 100kg.
I run on average 10 miles per day, training for marathon #30 with hopefully a pb of 3:15.

If i am doing something wrong, please do advise - i am always looking to improve.

I assumed it was the caffeine, I'd better cut down on the energy drinks then ! (sugar free of course...)

Caffeine promotes lipolysis (fat burning) and inhibits glycolysis (carb burning).

You're following unnecessary rules. This eat before or after X o'clock is bks. You might as well add that you always recycle bottles and have a Grade 3 in Violin. Recycling bottles and practising grade 3 violin pieces will still mean you achieve your results.

So to address your points.
1) Always stay hungry

Well, certainly, it will help as it means you're probably eating less.

2) Hunger is a positive feeling, means you are using your fat reserves

Actually, I like this - it's one way of looking at things even if it isn't true.

3) No eating after 19:00

I eat at 11pm and look great.

4) Eat breakfast as early as you can 06:30

I'm still asleep, thanks.

5) Go to bed hungry

Well, certainly, it's wise for avoiding GERD.

6) No tea, no coffee. Water is fine

Depends. White tea with sugar will add up if you have a few a day. Black coffee/tea with a zero cal sweetener is fine. (I have two a day.)

7) No alcohol

Well, certainly it has hidden cals. If you just drank 1000 calories in beer a day and ate nothing else, you won't get fat. You'll get ill but you won't get fat.

8) Fruit and veg is fine

Not if you eat too much of it!

9) No junk food

Well, it's certainly wise for your health. I happily chow down on crisps and chocolate bars.

10) Exercise hungry

No thanks. Pre-workout = biscuits. biggrin

I suppose I am quite young at 42 so... wink

PS Sorry if my reply comes across as overly aggressive!

FWIW - I am sure Andstillirise's thing works for him. I am sure it will work full stop, actually.

However, I have lost 4 kg since the new year without doing anything as uncomfortable sounding as that!

Indeed. It will work. But so will what you do work. We're all different but we're not that different. Just because I have black hair and you don't, doesn't mean I can eat as much as I want and get away with it.

(He says before opening a packet of crisps. biggrin )

To be fair to everyone else. It has worked to get me down to this level. I am actually trying to get down to 59-60 however finding it impossible to loose the rest.

My wife is concerned that i am loosing to much however the way i am looking at it is:

An extra 1 kg over 26.2 miles means I would have carried an additional 26.2kg for the 3:15 (PB marathon time).

Which should equate to saving in the region of 2/3 seconds per mile over a marathon.

ps: not trying to overrule anyone else's contribution or to say i know better, its just what has worked for me. I do believe that drinking coffee does help reduce fat also.

3'15" is a mental marathon time! smile

At 60kg you must be about 4'11! Or incredibly skinny. It might not be possible to reduce your weight further without sacrificing performance if you're tall as a lot of that weight is organs, bone and muscle.

If you weigh over 110kgs and do that much excercise you must be burning a huge amount of calories. What's your daily intake?

If you have a smartphone try running Lifesum for a few weeks. It helps count your calories in/out and also recommends a daily intake amount to reach your goal in a set time.

Losing 3 pounds+ a week is quite high though unless your really fat. You could be burning lean muscle as well as fat, which is never good.

I think you're a little different to the OP who is twice your weight and not mentioned any intention to run his 30th marathon in a very competitive time.
You are exceptional - take that whatever way you like. wink
What works for you will not be the best way for most.
