The PH Gymnasium Challenge Thread
There's been a slurry of threads over the years, a few are still going, and I wouldn't wish to take any movement away from those threads, the 1,000lb one especially. But I reckon a thread for throwing ideas at current challenges might be interesting and gain traction? 1RM are fun (and injury inducing) but there are loads of ideas we can throw around in here.
Stuff that leaps to the forefront of my mind are the Manthathlon (I posted on it recently), the BW 5 minute squat challenge lifted from rev (youtube), the 100kg bench press challenge et al.
There are about 3-4 Spartan '300' threads (that was an oldie goodie), and some deadlift threads, and rowing ones.
List of current challenges that seem fun;
Spartan 300 for time
Manthathlon for points
100kg bench press for reps
BW 5 minute squat challenge for reps

Waste of time on most of those. You need tests that are impossible to cheat on - one mans press up is another mans static hold and head butting the floor.
But to be honest I am struggling to think of a genuine physical test that is not subject to manipulation of some kind. cardio tests are pretty solid and easy to measure but strength/endurance tests? I am not so sure.

Thanks for the reminder! Need to give this one another go; it's several weeks since I last tried it.It's a great test and 'open to all' as it doesn't focus on a single weight.
The vid - for those who want to get inspired!

I can't risk another injury before my 10k so I'm putting all challenges on hold. It's a great test and 'open to all' as it doesn't focus on a single weight.

Haha!
I started deadlifts in December after ripping my pec in Dec of '15.
I have only squat as part of mybear complex (which again, I started in Dec), which I cap at 70kg. I think if I squat 110 now my lungs will implode and I'll need Vader's bodysuit.

160kg, which for me at the time was heavy, 1RM heavy.
I didn't realise how much damage had been done, I actually turned to one bloke minutes after it had happened and said something along the lines off, 'hope I've not torn my pec,' then 10-20plus minutes later as I was changing and the adrenaline/hormones began to wear off, I began to 'seize up' and struggled to take my vest off. I went to A&E that night, had to be driven.
Then a month later I rejigged it by being stupid.
It's been a long road...

I bet two-stage ruination is really common!
I damaged my rotator cuff doing wide-grip pull-ups. About a week later, thinking I'd just 'work through' whatever had happened, I did an awkward bench press - my body clearly trying to guard it - and that was it! Done for, for over a year.

Too right!f
k me, do I ever learn? IN November I hit my ankles hard on an interval session, then parkrun day came and they were still a bit sore, not recuped enough...what do I do? Take the day off and volunteer...nah, power through it by force of will...moron...cue then not being able to run for over a month, could barely hobble for a week....what an idiot I am...I can laugh about it now...well no I can't...
I need to learn from history!!
