Baby steriliser query

Hi all, to avoid the build up of lime scale in the bottle steriliser I was thinking of using distilled or deionized water.

Anyone done the same?

Is it safe for the baby?

Never tried it, but I can't see it doing any harm. It's boiled anyway.

Ours was fking rank after a week or so.

My thoughts too. Did also think about just boiling and cooling water, storing and just doing that.

I'm sure we got some sachets of descaler that work a treat

I used white vinegar to clear out the gunk from the water tray. Apart from being a bit whiffy, there were no problems.

V cheap from supermarkets, Mothercare etc

White vinegar is the way forward. I can't remember the concentration required, but you basically mix it with a set amount of water and leave it on the hot plate to dissolve.

Can smell a bit, but run the steriliser a few times and it will clear. We used this as its a more natural product and we preferred it to a chemical descaler. The handbook for our unit actually recommended the vinegar method.
