Numbness In Face

Morning all,

Yesterday morning I woke up with tingling and a little numbness in my face, just above the lip and a little on the cheek. It feels a bit like when the dentist numbs your gums and it's starts to wear off.

Normally I'd just leave it a few days to see if it went away itself but I'm a bit concerned as I took a knock in the face at football on Sunday morning. My eye swelled up and went black but the numbness only started yesterday so I don't think they are connected.

I've not had any blood from anywhere like the ears and everything else is fine. I hate going to the docs so was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and if so, did it go away after a few days?

Go and see the doctors ASAP, it's probably nothing but on the off chance you had a stroke or something similar the sooner they act upon it the better the outcome.

Could well be a stroke. Go to the docs, they may want you to have a scan to rule out any blood clots..

Have you had shingles or anything similar recently?

Have you had an Ear Infection recently by any chance OP. The nerves that control the face come through the skull just behind the ear....swelling cause by ear infections can lead to numbness in the face. My son had a bad ear infection when he was younger had numbness in his face for a while afterwards.

BUT as others so VERY important you get it checked out quickly.

Could be Bells Palsy in which case the sooner they get you on Steroids the better.

Thanks for the replies.

Doctor has put it down to nerve damage from a head/face knock during football. She said it should get better in the next few days.

Thankfully nothing serious.
