wondering what PH's thoughts are on this.

I'm not looking at something pricey, something that's comfy to use on a rowing machine and Elliptical trainer (cross trainer). I normally use converse hi-tops for when it comes to lifting. If however I could use it for lifting as well then that would be a bonus. If they look ok then hell, I'd probably wear them to work (we dress fairly casual).

Stick with the converse. Rocky ran wearing those and it never did him any harm. :-)

Unless you are running loads then any pair of trainers would do. If you want them for lifting too then look for some of the zero drop "barefoot" style shoes. For example:

Be warned when you first start running in them your calves will hurt like fking hell. They will be fine for the cardio and the flat sole will suit lifiting

I don't find converse comfy enough to use for running or walking about in. It's only useful for lifting weights because it's flat. I wont be doing any running either..I hate running! So it would be just for use of the rowing machines and cross trainer. something that is comfy enough for long walking periods (such as going out shopping at a shopping centre or what not) would be advantageous.

If I can pop to a store, such as sports direct for something, so I can try it on it would be preferable. I think I've got flat feet too.

Sorry misread that, thought you were using the treadmill.

Sports Direct don't have any professional advice givers and the range is pretty basic. I would look for a zero drop running shoe with decent cushioning. That will give you the flatness for lifting but still be comfortable for walking about in.

If you go to a proper shop and you do have flat feet they will put you in a stability shoe which is fine for running but wont be any good for lifting.

I have flat feet and I just wear a normal pair of sauconny running trainer in the gym. But then I don't do big lifting, just sports specific stuff so foot wear probably not that important. Do a lot of stuff barefoot at home als.

IF your lifting heavy then you can easily destroy the cushioning in the heals unless its fairly chunky bit of solid rubber.

What would be considered a proper shop? Also, I don't need it for lifting and I don't need it for running, I want it for using the cross trainer & rowing machine. So something with cushioning would be preferable.

Cross trainer & rowing machine don't need anything special at all.

You could wear a pair of brogues and it'd be fine.

Buy whatever appeals to your eyes and wallet.
