ks. My son was had a water birth at home. I think I was just as tired as her by the end of it (only had a hand pump to inflate, plus took 2 hours to fill). The Midwife just left us to it and sat in the kitchen checking up on us every half hour until he was ready to come out. best thing was the midwife was just sorting out the gas and air just as he was coming out so I was the first person in the world to see him, and he was clean when she lifted him out.
The water wasn't a big mess of poo and blood either which surprised me. cannot recommend it enough

They take a long time to fill up so, what with this being your second, you might not have time given they tend to slip out quite quickly compared to No 1. Landlady requested one be filled with our first. By the time it was ready she was so fked off and wanted "this thing out of me" she didn't use the bath.
No 2 arrived barely an hour or so after the contractions first started at home so, had we wanted a water birth when we got to the hospital, the midwife would still have been putting the plug in when he arrived.

This was the wife's plan for both of our kids.
For the first child we'd followed all the NCT stuff about not going to hospital until you really need to etc. and as it seems got there with minutes to spare. At that point she'd started to lose blood so the water birth went out of the window, emergency C section was mentioned, and finally number 1 son was hauled out of his mother's foof with the aid of a pair of big metal tongs and some carefully made incisions.
For the second we knew that we had to do one to the hospital pretty much as soon as she'd gone into labour. Dumped #1 son with some friends, dashed down there, bit of waiting around (1/2 hr) and asked for a water birth. Got into the birthing suite, by the time they'd filled the pool and the wife had got in, bit of moaning and groaning and out popped our baby girl. It was surreal immediately after she'd been born as you could see the baby under the water but it was nearer to the side of the pool I was on. Didn't know if I was supposed to reach in to grab it but fortunately the midwife took charge. You sort of forget that the baby can't drown as it's still getting oxygen from its mother. Anyway the wife said it helped and made things a bit easier. Still needed a few stitches after
Still from going into labour mid morning, dash off to the hospital, give birth, discharged and home before teatime. Pretty efficient really.
BTW it is pretty gross all the blood and other stuff floating around in the water but then the whole process really isn't something to be enjoyed IMHO (apart from seeing the wife suffer
