Just over a month ago I broke my right index finger, some one smacked it with a stick.

I went to the doctor, probably broken he says and it gets strapped to the next finger.

Ok month later, I figure it's as healed as it's getting but my range of motion is tiny, I can't straighted it of pull it into a fist. Top of the finger, is distinctly concave.

This pic shows maximum extension. It I manually work it I can make it go a bit straighter, but it takes ages and it very painful.

Pic above shows as much of a fist as I can make.

I'm working on range of motion every day, but it dosen't seem to be improving at all. What's normal?

Get yourself to a fracture clinic at your local hospital if you haven't been.
Your GP should refer you.

Don't worry. I broke mine a few years ago, literally bent 90 degrees sideways in the middle.

I got great support from Chelsea and Westminster fracture clinic. They saw me every week, and gave me lots of exercises which I worked hard at.

After 2 weeks movement was minimal, and it probably took 3-4 months to get some decent movement. The ligaments tighten and need to be stretched with constant exercise.

After 6 months to a year it was much better, and after a couple of years fully recovered.

Good luck!
