ACDF surgery. Recovery.

Disc between C6 and 7 removed.
5 weeks ago today.
Had almost zero pain apart from directly after.
Been taking it easy, short walk daily and plenty of rest.
Today my neck aches and it feels like my head weighs as much as a small house.
I did cut the grass on Monday, powered mower so no real effort. Other than that nothing.
Is this part of the process or have i slept oddly. Had a serious soak in the bath which hasn't helped.
Far from agony but annoying and uncomfortable, may need to resort to pain killers.
Not easy to get to the doctors as its in another town and I can't drive yet.
Anybody got any experience of this? Web seems to be even vaguer than usual on this.

I had an L5/S1 spinal fusion and an L4/5 ADR 5 years ago.. Recovery was slow, but still quicker than the Discectomy I had 10 years ago!!
Beware the pain killers.. Pandora's box with them. Was on strong opiates for years, easily addictive. Was almost harder getting off them than the surgery was!

Now I'm becoming a little concerned.. I'm waiting to have this done and so far have thought of it as a standard but uncomfortable procedure, a bit like a root canal, where recovery is not too troublesome. I haven't asked about recovery times yet, maybe I should put my head back in the sand again.

has your surgeon explained the risks and benefits fully using numbers ( his or general ) ? in my slightly cynical experience ( having been left to mop up when theings go awry) , some of the surgeons underplay the risks and side effects which can cause a bit of discussion as to whether they sought fully informed consent.

but any operation has risks ... if the surgeon won;t talk numbers in general i'd be concerned about his consent taking ...
some are reluctant becasue people in general are not good at numbers in terms of risk etc ...
Regarding post op, I have had almost no pain at all.
On coming round post op it hurt that was it. Just the one day and it seems fine again now.
I was advised to literally do nothing at all initially. It is hard to do nothing, probably the hardest thing.
Other than not being able to carry anything I'm fine. Fingers crossed will get the all clearmtomdrive again in a couple of days.
