Fathers short term memory loss

My farher has so e short term memory loss.
He can still drive pretty much fone.

In group situations he does tend to sit out of conversations.
Though he is quite good one to one.
Reminds me of rne dimentia advert on tv.

He certainly isn't as he used to be.

He doesn't feel he has a problem.

It could be dimentia, or old age or another memory related problem.

His mother had dimentia.

I am concerned tnat in ignoring this we may be passing up tne opportunity for some sort of treatment to help prevent it getting worse.

Anyone have any advice?

Just a thought but my Dad's apparent intelligence rose dramatically the day he had his hearing aid fitted. If you cannot hear without a struggle, you tend to opt out of conversations and the more people in the conversation, the harder it is.

Please get it checked out professionally, there are many medications that can help in the early stage if it is Dementia, I only wished we had persued earlier as it may have allowed him a better life for longer. We originally put it down to depression over leaving work, but realise now there were so many other things we chose to miss (such as short term memory loss. Part of the problem is getting them to agree to the tests.

sounds like he needs a good check over to rule out things like hearing loss ( or even just heavily clogged with wax ear canals) as well as screening for dementia etc ...
