My son has flat feet (as a result of hyper-mobility) and has orthotic innersoles for his normal day-to-day shoes & trainers.

He wants to improve his running, so we're now looking for a pair of trainers suitable for him. He's ten years old and a size four foot, and we're having trouble finding a pair that will do the job. We can find plenty of trainers that cater for overpronation in size six or above, but smaller than that is proving hard.

Any ideas?

I would think that your son would need a neutral running shoe if he will be using orthotics, otherwise this will effect his prescription & over correct his feet.

Sorry, didn't make myself clear - we didn't want to use his orthotics in the new trainers. We wanted a pair that already has the support in place. They are available in adult sizes, but we're struggling to find them in his size.

Just get a neutral stability shoe and use the custom orthotic, otherwise you can't be sure the support for the foot is in the right place. Something from new balance would be my suggestion, they do good stability shoes and also different last shapes and widths so may fit orthotics more easily

I'm an adult who is flat footed (right side only) and went to this place for my running shoes http://www.runandbecome.com/

They were extremely helpful in finding the right running shoe that imo are far more suitable than using a neutral shoe with inserts.

Is it 100% flat feet? Just that I have hyper mobility too but the problem with my feet (causing me to overpronate) was that I needed a wider fitting shoe/skate/rugby boot.

I don't know about your kid's specific needs, but I thought all kids were far better off with a flat, quite flexible, thin sole, like the old fashioned plimsolls

Thanks for that. I'll have a look at their site.

.

The orthotic dept at the hospital say that his flat feet are caused by the hyper-mobility. The over-pronation is clear when he is bare foot. We get his school shoes fitted at Clark's with the innersoles in so we know we get a good fit there. Trainers tend not to come in different width fittings unfortunately.

That may be true if they have 'normal' feet, but my lad definitely needs the extra support.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Try Kswiss shoes . I bought them for my 8 year old son , and they look super adorable on him. He loves to run around, so I needed to find a pair of shoes that were sturdy and comfortable. I own a pair of k-swiss myself, so I got him a pair as well since I absolutely love mine. Needless to say he is also very happy with them.
