Tennis elbow/acupuncture

I've had tennis elbow for about 6 months. I've been an archer for 30 years but never had this before. I think it's actually been caused by using a slinger to throw the dog's ball with a bit of her pulling helping to make it worse!
I've heard that the injection in the elbow to help is incredibly painful and not very effective.
I was wondering if anyone on here had suffered too and if anyone knew of a cure short of total rest as that's just not possible, the dog, DIY, carrying anything at all, all manage to keep it going.
So, any answers?
