Hello!
Any PH'ers gone through the IVF process with their families?
We're in the early stages and was looking for any experiences.
As we already have a daughter we don't qualify for it by going through the NHS and the prices vary wildly depending on where you look. Although i seem to remember someone saying that just because we have a child that we can't go through the NHS?
Anyway, we have a consultation soon (In Scotland if that matters) and just looking for any experiences on impact to you / your Mrs.

We're on our third go. Wife at 35 didn't qualify for nhs treatment with our local nhs authority.
My somewhat cynical view is it's a licence to print money so they have a vested interest in it taking multiple goes. The reality is that the statistics really are not in your favour, it's something like 1 in 4 pregnancies (any method of conception) that makes it past the first month.
Good luck with it, it's not an easy process to deal with.

We went through two IVF procedures a few years ago (both unsuccessful); at the time the NHS waiting list in Lothian was 2-3 years so we went private - the consultant who saw us at the NHS hospital for our initial NHS appointment (before we went on the waiting list) was the same person we saw privately (Spire health care - part of our treatment was in an industrial estate in Glasgow!). By going private we reduced the number of free NHS procedures we were entitled to which I thought was a bit unfair but time was not on our side. The first attempt didn't work, then the NHS waiting list shortened dramatically due to additional funding so we gave it another go. Our experience of the NHS was better than the private treatment.
I am glad we tried it, but it was a deeply unpleasant process (physically for my wife, and emotionally for both of us). They can't find any reason for us not to conceive which is annoying, and all the results were good up until we found out it didn't work.
