re-fractured ankle: long term instability
Discussion
hi, i just broke my foot.
fact is that this is the 3rd time the ankle gets broken. the first break occurred when i was a child and a friend of mine landed on it while playing basket. was not a bad fracture, i walked on it till the next day and healed after some weeks in a splint.
but the articulation remained unstable, i had a surgery to try repair ligaments but made no big difference. some years later i refractured the same ankle when i fell on it. compound break so a surgery was necessary to fix the malleolis.
after this accident the ankle was even more fragile so i took a number of sprains, but luckly cartilage is ok so no pains in everyday life. the screws were removed a long time ago.
and now.... i fell downstairs rebreaking the stupid foot! pain and swelling and unstability were clearly of a fracture, was impossible to remove the shoe, luckly everything is quite aligned. anyway in the next days i'll see an ortho and i wonder if refracturing the same bones 3 times can make some difference for the recovery.
and is it possible to perform another ligaments reconstruction after the first one? not that i would expect a big improvement...

I have very over-mobile ankles and have suffered various injuries as a result.
I did have a successful ligament re-attachment a few years ago, and I have improved my balance through exercises and practice, but there is still very little resistance to going-over on it -and the other one.
