I've been going to the gym for many years, thought I seen it all, I really did....

However last night a young lad in his twenties came in dressed in tight Lycra black (running?) leggings, Nike mustard colour high tops and an XL oversized blue hoodie ., he then proceeded to put his hood up, put on a training belt and do shrugs with Dumbbells ....and I almost forgot his bag of chalk. This is a Village hotel gym btw.

The let's all wear our superdry tracksuit bottoms brigade Faze had only just finished, is this the new image for the twenties lads ?

I couldn't care less about what anyone wears to the gym. One thing I can't get my head around is people who wear hoodies whilst working out, they must be melting in them! Unless they think that the more they sweat, the more weight they'll lose. In that case, fking muppets!

Maybe he's trying to avoid being distracted by his pumped form in the mirrors?

Who needs a lifting belt for shrugs? I don't use them at all but if I did it would be for heavy squats, deadlifts and that's it. I couldn't train in a hoodie either, I'm usually sweating after my first heavy set as it is.

My standard gym outfit is loose black tracksuit bottoms and a black wifebeater vest. Good for cooling, covering skinny legs and checking out how swole I am (or not) in the mirror silly.

Roaring at these replies !

I honestly don't mind what people wear, but I honestly thought he looked a complete bell, he was no gym newbie either.

Will try and get a sneaky picture if he does it again, you really got to see it to believe it.

(Music on phone btw)

If you think they are big, you should see the size of some of the women around here

Is he a sportsman of some kind or a body builder?

Criticise him all you like, I can't imagine that he would be able to runwalk very fast with those thighs!

I find that running tights are surprisingly good at moderating body temperature, better than trackies / sweatpants anyway. Hoodies less so...

Well, he'll never be a weightlifter.

I tend to wear my tweeds for the gym. I will remove my jacket if there are no ladies present

One of the new breed of bodybuilders who have gone too far in overdeveloping everything (especially core)a little too far and do not look as proportioned as, say, Arnold.

I'll sometimes wear a hoodie in the gym until I get properly warm. Gyms usually set their air con to keep people doing cardio comfortable. In a weights room, having a few minutes rest between sets it can be a bit cold - I want to be warm when I'm training. If doing heavy singles I'll sometimes put my hoodie back on between sets to stay warm. Can't get a belt around a hoodie very well though so rarely train in one once I get up to work sets.

There's a guy at my gym who's obviously a builder that comes in every morning in boots and combat trousers covered in tile adhesive finger marks. Works out with his hi-vis on hehe

Vests and shorts are the attire at my gym, so human chip fat is basically sprayed on everything you put your hands on. They need to see their full natty gains I guess. I wish they'd cover a bit for hygiene's sake.

You'll always get people following fads in gyms. Buying whatever is in fashion at the time. Surprised he didn't have some beats too! I just train in whatever is comfortable or whatever was given away free with supplements. Sweatpants if the day doesn't involve legs or cardio, shorts if it does. I'll always wear a hoodie to warm up in this time of year. Usually comes off after my 4 warm up sets then I'm happy 90% of the time without sleeves. Some leg workouts I keep a hoodie on throughout, just feel better keeping a bit of warmth upper body. Yeh I'll sweat more but the gym provide tissue paper for that wink

Isn't that just a natural progression? It's a bit like Crufts for men. The form (beauty is presumably in the eye of the beholder) is the end itself, functionality and utility are not important.

Bodybuilding isn't my kind of thing, really.

Used to have this problem at my gym, people wearing builders clothes or wearing office attire (singlet with chinos and loafers...), its been policed and they get asked to leave.
