Doctors on Tuesday anyway, but worth asking if anyone else has experienced this.

Open inginual hernia repair early September, took a while to heal with some complications. Wound opened at the bottom twice, due to this it got infected and quite swollen during the healing time. Antibiotics and plenty of dressings sorted it out.
It has felt ok for the past 8 weeks or so, however I'm now starting to get some quite sharp pin prick pains in the repair area.
Quite uncomfortable when it happens. Normally happens when carrying out normal activity, nothing strenuous, sometimes happens when I'm sat down relaxing.

Anyone else experienced this ? Or any ideas ?

Had mine done 10 days ago,and all going well at the moment. Was advised by the assistant surgeon that I may experience the symptoms you describe. Pins and needles. As if waking up because you slept on your arm awkwardly.....?

Hmmm feels more like a really sharp pain rather than a pins and needles feeling.

Quite common i'm afraid - Google post herniorraphy pain syndrome, but try to stick to decent websites like patient.co.uk. If it gets bad, neuroleptic pain killers have good results, like low dose amitriptyline, but worth having it examined first to rule out a complication/recurrence.

Glad to hear you're ok, and you've been assured it's normal. Are you back to your pre-op self?
Just under 2 weeks since mine and up to doing a brisk 90 minutes walk now. Aim is fully fit by the New Year.

I have had two done, both sides when I was in my 20's. I am 50 now and still to this day have sharp pains as if they left pins in there. For all you new repairs, it may not go away !

Yeah I'm back to normal work activity and been back on my 'mountain biking for good few weeks.
The pains only came on in the last 7-10 days, plus numbness around the surgery area is getting better. Nerves growing back seems to make sense. See how it goes.

Out of interest why did you have an open op rather than keyhole? I had keyhole and was amazed how quickly I got back to normal- think I may need another one on opposite side!

Mine was open. I didn't seem to have a choice. Was just told that the surgeon didn't do keyhole. Not that I'm complaining. I felt uncomfortable at the end of July, saw the consultant end of August, and done 2 weeks ago.
Exemplary treatment. I cannot praise the NHS enough. Not one hitch, and all staff so polite and sincere.

No choice, surgeon decided on open after an assesment. Believe you me, would have preferred keyhole.

I've had 4 ....includes a double.

This is common, it does get better. Iam packed full of mesh, last op as around 4 years ago but still get the odd dull ache in the area, Iam extremely active and play sport to a very high level plus gym.

Rest and take it slow, take your time to get back to being as active as you were, sure you will get the " I was lifting/running/biking after 2 days " brigade but ignore them and listen to your body

All the best
