For several weeks now I've been experiencing vertigo. Not major, once a day or so, but it's been annoying and left me feeling nauseous. No movement is required, sometimes I can be perfectly still and the world around me will suddenly move.

I've also had a feeling of pressure in my forehead or a tight band around my head. A sort of muzzy feeling in my head seems to grow throughout the day. When I get up I feel fairly okay, but by mid-morning (now in fact) I feel vaguely thick-headed, pressure behind forehead and basically a bit rough.

Googling the symptoms seems to suggest an ear infection, though I am not experiencing any ear discomfort.

Any ideas chaps please?

PS it started well before I started on the Christmas drinks wink Also I fancy that the problem is slightly less after a drink or two.

Check out labrynthitis. No pain but the exact same symptoms.

Usually related to stress or a lack of sleep.

I wondered about this. The lead up to Christmas was busy, but I've had 4 days of rest now and it's not improving.

Could it be sinus related maybe?

It takes 2-3 weeks to go if you're at the room-spinning-round-must-sit-down stage.

You could go to the docs and they'll give you a prescription for something to reduce the inflammation inside your ears which will help until the illness has gone.

You sound like you're speaking from experience here.

The lead-up to Christmas was busy, but not hugely stressful. Not so intense that I would expect it to make me unwell.

Yes, I had labrynthitis a few years ago. I keep some pills (betahistine) in the fridge just in case. Sometimes when I burn the candle at both ends, the world gets a little wobbly and that's a sure sign to back up before it gets to the point when you look like you've drunk a pint of vodka.

Were you going to bed later and later towards Christmas? I find that can also result in wobbly world.

No I wasn't going to bed later.

To be honest, my gut feeling is that this isn't lifestyle / stress related. Based upon what I feel and bit of Googling my best guess is that I've got some sort of infection somewhere in my head / sinuses / inner ear and the vertigo is a symptom of it. It gets worse when I am tired, hungry or stressed. But I think those are exacerbating factors rather than the causes.

It IS a result of inner ear infection. biggrin And yes, it is made worse when you're tired or stressed. But being tired or stressed before that has resulted in a lowered immunity and therefore the infection.

You could be suffering from a cold, too, which is a result of a lowered immunity which is a result of stress and/or a lack of quality sleep.

Ah sorry, misunderstood what you were saying.

I've not had vertigo today at all, but as I type it feels like I am wearing a baseball cap. Except I'm not.

I suffer from anxiety and get similar symptoms to yourself. The tight scalp and forehead is very common with stress/anxiety these things can creep up on you without you knowing.

I would ditch the booze and some clean living for a while to see if that helps.

Suspect having yesterday off and being able to relax and enjoy life for a bit has helped. smile

As I mentioned earlier, I've had 4 days off now. The first three of which involved total relaxation, lounging in a spa and several massages. There has been no notable difference since I stopped work on 22nd, nor for that matter for the last 3 weeks. Things have been fairly constant.

I spoke too soon anyway. I was sitting relaxed on the sofa a few minutes ago and my head spun twice. No head movement, no stress, no external triggers.

Is there an OTC equivalent of that medicine you have? I don't much fancy getting a GP appointment on Monday.

As I suggest, it's a slow thing that develops over time and goes away over time.

Could try an anti-inflammatory eg ibuprofen but it might do fk all.

Mmmmm. Could be a very contagious form of Chavitis (commonly called SICK in urban areas). Are your jeans bagging around your arse - exposing your boxer-shorts, and have you started walking like you have a stone in your shoe?

My jeans are definitely not bagging around my arse, they are skin-tight on account of my Christmas diet. Nor are they exposing my boxer shorts - as you know, I prefer commando.

As for the stone in my shoe, no there isn't. But there's one in my pants, because that's approximately what my cock weighs.

I'm with Hoofy, in thinking it sounds like Labyrinthitis, as I suffer too frown

You'll need the prescription I'm afraid, and it tends to reoccur frown my Dr now takes my word for it & prescribes me over the phone (in fact I think I'm on a repeat prescription @ Boots!)!

There's a good mine of information here http://www.labyrinthitis.org.uk/page3.htm

You could try this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epley_maneuver

but book an appointment with your GP if you're bothered. It doesn't need to be an urgent one, by the sounds of it, so you should be able to find a time to suit?

Annoyingly, you could have a cold coming on as well as labrynthitis!
