Hi folks,
I'm currently having a small gym of about 10sq meters built and need to decide on flooring. It's seems fairly clear that a rubber based floor would be best, but I'm not too keen and still find myself searching for other options.
For example, would I regret going for engineered oak with a rubber stall mat or two? Or perhaps 3/8 inch rolled rubber with something like Polyflor sport 67 maple on top?
Thanks for any thoughts or advice

Ah yes, usage. It's just going to be a bench with free weights, punchbag, dip / pull up bars.
I know a wooden floor wouldn't appreciate a dumbbell being dropped on it, but I've been training in an upstairs bedroom for long enough that I don't think I could bring myself to drop a weight as opposed to placing it down anyway.

Those interlocking (fairly sense) foam tiles are great for flooring. I have done my whole garage in them. Cheap too if you don't use Racedeck or the like.
When our gym room is due its refit it'll be getting laminate flooring with a decent underlay, and then popping several of those rubber mats where any weights, etc. will be used.TROOPER88 said:

Leisure club management is my game.
The best stuff if free weights are being used is actually the rubber matting used in the farming industry. I believe it is used in horse boxes etc
Very heavy, thick and brilliant for weights areas

Yes, these horse stall mats seem to come up often on forums. The only negatives I here of are the smell and them not always lining up quite right when placed together, creating a gap or lip. Leisure club management is my game.
