2016 Health resolutions
Discussion
A post-Christmas weigh-in has my BMI as overweight for possibly the first time in my life.
As mentioned in another thread, Mrs Pints is determined that I stop eating red meat and poultry. I'll admit that I'm expecting to miss the occasional steak or bacon sarnie, but I'm looking forward to losing weight and having an internal cleanse. Coffee will be replaced with Redbush tea, and I'll probably be starting with a 10-day juice fast.
My resolution is to lose 10% body weight and keep it off in 2016.
Feel free to share your own resolutions (or unwavering support).
And a curse upon your houses if you post any bacon pictures.

I’ve been that unhealthy of late I don’t know where to start! I’ve drank more, slept less, can’t remember the last time I went to the gym properly and my diet is soooo far off what it needs to be I don’t even know where to start!
This has all been a slippery slope from going religiously to the gym 5/6 times a week to where I am now. If I’m honest I’ve no idea how to get that motivation back.
I’ve been full of great intentions of late and bought the best of kit – new bike for cycling to work (not done it once), all new gym gear (which I’ve only worn about the house), fitness trackers, made spreadsheets, etc, etc.
To summarise, I’ve done absolutely nothing of late! So, for 2016 I have many great intentions but number one on the list (and possibly the hardest it seems!) is just to actually put into practice half of the stuff I’ve spoken about.
Maybe writing this down will give me the kick up the rear I need...but I doubt it

What did you used to enjoy doing when you was a regular gym goer?
It was always weights i did at the gym, i never really enjoyed or did much cardio. I was 14 stone with 8% bodyfat (5ft 10) at my peak. I would take a guess at being 12.5 stone with at least double that bodyfat now!
Long story short is that i was in a bike accident and broke a good few bits and pieces and after recovery i was disheartened by the lack of strength i had when i went back to the gym. I could only do half the weights i could previously and although it's pretty obvious that would be the case it totally destroyed my motivation. I think most of it is a mental thing but the longer i left it the worse it got so i'm now effectively a total gym newbie again.

Fair enough. I know I feel down a bit when I've not done a lift for a while and think 'where has my strength gone?', but as you know, it comes back. I was 14 stone with 8% bodyfat (5ft 10) at my peak. I would take a guess at being 12.5 stone with at least double that bodyfat now!

As stew said the juice fast is b
ks. You will lose a bit of water and some fat which will go straight back on. You'll be missing out on a broad range of nutrients and will feel s
t.
Also why cut out red meat and poultry? Chicken is a great lean source of protein and red meat is loaded with iron and protein. Cut down on the red stuff and get leaner cuts sure but any "diet" that involves cutting an entire food out (unless what you are cutting is booze and refined sugar) is not a good idea.

You smashing yourself up and not being able to lift as much is the same as a runner getting older and moaning they can't run as quick as they used to.I was 14 stone with 8% bodyfat (5ft 10) at my peak. I would take a guess at being 12.5 stone with at least double that bodyfat now!

Just re adjust what your new normal is then start chipping away improving it.

I went frome relatively strong and fit, gym 5 times a week, to zero after a multiple spinal fracture following a fairly nasty motorbike crash. Just get back at it and crack on, I'm way past where I was before the accident, but it took a while. Best thing you can do is get back in a routine This has all been a slippery slope from going religiously to the gym 5/6 times a week to where I am now. If I’m honest I’ve no idea how to get that motivation back.

Nor planning on doing the juice detox to lose weight but to detox my system.

Just going to give it a go and see how it pans out.
My sister and BiL have been at it for a while and seem happy enough, as has my best mate.
Each to their own and all that. If I choose to go back to meat in the summer, then it just wasn't meant to be.

Need to lose weight again myself. Put on a stone in two months (Had a tough time with no chance to train and living on rubbish food while my son was in hospital)
Lost 2lbs since I started last week, restricting to 2000 calories per day and on the Strong lifts 5x5 routine to build up my base strength again. It's terrifying how quickly strength vanishes when not training
After a week I'm at 105kg squat, 70kg bench, 140kg deadlift, 50kg BOR and 40kg OH Press. Just easing back in

No resolutions as such, just a continuation of this year's training which has been very very good. So no bulls
t diets/detoxes, just gonna get out there and do it, and not b
h about it.
Some goals in mind - one coming up in March which should suit the chemical imbalance in my brain. And a double bodyweight bench press is definitely do-able by the autumn.

Don't torture yourself mate. Doing that to "detox" is even more b
ks than to lose weight.Your liver and kidneys do a fantastic job of removing crap from your system. Sure they could use a break so cutting back on booze, getting plenty of fresh fruit and veg and drinking plenty of water will achieve the same result as the juice diet without the negatives!
Up to you though, and good luck if you do it.

What works for others does not mean it will work for you. You are not the same as they are.
