home gym with olympic weights
Discussion
Strength Shop, Bison and Wolverson Fitness were the ones I bookmarked after researching this at the start of last year. I've had a few bits from Strength Shop and all great quality so they are probably top of he pile to me. I use their Black Oxide bar (about £80) and it's great, knurling a little light though.
Have you got a rack etc sorted?
Have you got a rack etc sorted?
Thanks I will take a look at those companies.
In terms of a rack I was thinking of something along the lines of...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ryno-Power-Rack-Squat-Ca...
I have not seen these in the metal so no idea how solid they will be but I am sure they will be up to the job. It's only going to be myself and my wife using it and neither of us will use it to anywhere near it's full weight capacity

Two things to watch with that rack: 1) are the safeties hollow? If so they could bend if weight is dropped on them. 2) do you have enough space to put the safeties in and take them out - they are "saber" style so you need the full length to them in and and out.
As a budget option I would check out the CF475, it comes with swing in style safety bars which need much less room to put in and out, the provenance is better and it doesn't cost too much more. I've used one for about a year and dropped 120+kg before and it's been fine.

chaps,
Just about to move house and am building a gym in the garden.
My training is mainly the basic movements (squats, deadlifts etc)
I cannot believe how expensive olympic plates are! Apart from secondhand on ebay does anyone know a good supplier at a half reasonable price?
Cheers.

I have had this rack for my home gym for the last 6 months. It is great! Very sturdy and well made. Amazing how cheap it is for what it can do. I dont use olympic plates and have a "beefy bar" thats as long and fat as a olympic bar but takes standard plates. In terms of a rack I was thinking of something along the lines of...

I bought this just before Christmas - http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/deluxe-strengt... - £500.
It's great for home use. Only downside is it only comes with 100kg - but the weights are easy to come by.
Thanks,
Matt

thanks for the replies gents.
Stupeo, that rack looks good. I don't normally go for pay pay monthly but that is an interesting option they offer as it means on a monthly basis I will be paying less than for a gym membership, I have enough things to spend money on kitting out a new house!
Fingers crossed I am moving next friday so need to get on the case with this!

Hi Mark, I moved last year and built a gym in my garage, I bought these:

http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-100kg-...
http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-cf430-...
I've been using them 1-3 times a week since May last year, they're getting a bit scratched but other than that I've had no problems at all. They're also much cheaper than any of the other new alternatives.

How do you find the CF470 half rack? Does it feel safe squatting & benching under the spotters?http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/bodymax-cf470-...

I've currently got a CF375 full rack. Was thinking of switching to the CF470 to give me a bit more space to workout. But just consious that with a full rack I can't miss the spotters if I was to fail in anyway.

The one thing I would say is that depending on your bench, it's difficult to get the bench back far enough if you wanted to do incline, although it just about makes it.
