For about 6 months now been having trouble with my left knee.
Im 30, normal sort of build and active job (all manner of property refurb), knee pads in my work trousers each day without fail for years.
Its fine when walking, running, bending down etc but whenever i climb any stairs it cracks numerous times each step when straightening. Right knee is completely fine.
Doc dismissd it as air popping in the joint but its got worse since, and after a full days work it does start to ache a bit. I know nothing about how the knee is structured but it feels like a ligament or something either directly infront of knee cap or directly behind knee cap is the source.
Any ideas as to what the problem is? Anything practical i can do to help it?, i have already switched to keeping left leg straight when climbing stairs. Lessening my workload is unfortunately not an option as ive got too much on at the minute.

Oh the knee, I thought i had torn cart ledge or similar, turned out to be a muscle in balance (thigh, hamstring) if you google it there a lot of simple physio type exercises you can do to strengthen the core muscles of your legs helping your knees
I may be wide of the mark, but the exercises are free and you maybe see/feel results in a couple of weeks if you do them a couple times a day

I can do them but the cracking noise is there with lunges etc, not really painful but its just disconcerting hearing my knee do that.
I think muscle inbalance is the cause though looking into it, and the knee cap not "tracking" correctly, it certainly feels like its out of alignment, the actual bending is fine though, problem only occurs when straightening again.

My approach would be to do partial ROM then so you never get the cracking. Partial reps will still build strength - it just won't be as effective but at least your leg won't fall off. OP see my recent thread on a knee injury I suffered. My advice would be to see a knee specialist, ask for a referral from your GP or if it's bothering you pay yourself (you'll still need a referral is my experience/understanding).Im 30, normal sort of build and active job (all manner of property refurb), knee pads in my work trousers each day without fail for years.

There is a resident knee surgeon user name The Doc who happened to do my surgery. However he rightly won't diagnose over the internet.
