Any back gurus help with this?

I've felt the middle of my back and into my left shoulder the last couple of weeks, had a hard days manual labour today and it's got much worse.

It's a bit of a weird feeling not agony but more of an uncomfortable/gnarly sort of pain. Today it feels more into my left shoulder, I still feel it on my spine a bit but it seems to move around.

Other things I'm feeling-
Top inner arm(left)just before it goes into armpit is painful ( this seems to have disappeared with ibropofen)
Bit of sciatica type pain in lower back and left butt cheek but nothing major
My left wrist and bottom of my palm also feels weird sort of hot with an annoying sensation which feels better if I massage hard with my thumb!

As said it a weird annoying pain if I teach over my shoulder and pull up the muscle it seems to click as I move it but it doesn't feel like it's the bone that's moving.

Bit of a vague discription I know but can't work out if it nerve or muscle that causing it, even if I try stretching and moving myself around I can't quite work out exactly where it's coming from.

I have had a bit of anxiety issues over Xmas but seems to be under control so maybe all just a tension thing.

Any ideas what it is or the best first port of call physio or chiropractor?

Been having the same thing, an X-ray on my back showed my spine is on the piss over to my left.
Tends to be the side I favour leaning to when driving my van or when sat on the sofa. My doctor has referred me to physio to sort it properly but since she went over my X-ray with me I've been making an effort to sit up straight and improve my posture which is helping.
A firmer bed is also really helping things, I'm a side sleeper and always wake up sleeping on my side but if I manage to go out laying flat on my back it feels much better the following day.

Was thinking my posture may be something to do with it, I seem to drive leaning slightly forward and to the left(don't know why!) also I tend to sit side on on the sofa(also turning to the left).I visited a back specialist? a few months ago who said I had a couple of vertebrae out and he promptly put them back in place apparently, not quite sure of his credentials he was recommended to me. It did seem to help quite a bit but it's not been 100% since then but the problem I saw him for was lower back.

Feels a bit better tonight but it's definitely worse when sitting and to a lesser degree lying it's just really annoying as I can't find a position or stretch that feels like it's helping.

Don't waste your money re chiro. The stress thing you mention won't help, it usually dovetails with shallow breathing, rounded shoulders, and possibly elevated first rib caused by tight neck muscles. The pain in your hands and forearm will be thoracic outlet syndrome, you must get your posture spot on first, and then go from there.

This will explain most of it, assuming you don't have any other medical abnormalities of the spine etc. it's a bit heavy reading but the subject is so very complicated.

Thanks for that will have a good look at it later.

Bit better this morning but I've been fairly idle so far, if I'm on my feet I hardly notice it, interesting you mention the neck as this seems to be part of the issue. I seem to get a bit of relief if I pull my shoulders back together also if I put my head as far back as I can go, tilting it forward seems to make it worse.

Have you tried doing some proper stretching? I go from being sat hunched over a mouse and keyboard all day to the gym and then to my sofa, and the only way I stay mobile is by stretching!

You might find some useful info here: http://www.mobilitywod.com/. Kelly Starrett has a book on stretching that I always refer to and I've found it really useful.

I find walking helps. A lot. I know my posture is poor, but I've been unable/too lazy to correct it.

When walking I try to adopt the Prince Philip, ramrod straight hands behind the back posture.

The worst thing is gardening, sweeping, and working on the car. These activities can wreck me for a day or two.

Mines exacerbated by breaking the top of my humerus whilst I had a frozen shoulder. It's never properly recovered.

Dead giveaway for bad posture is that your scm's and scale rs are rock solid because they are filling in for other muscles that should be doing the job, only your head is basically leaning forward and not in line.

I've recently received physio for what may be a similar complaint.
My main symptoms were my left arm going numb and pins & needles in my fingers when laying on my back.
It seems my left shoulder in particular was forward of where it should be/is now, putting pressure on my ulnar nerve. It was remedied by some manipulation, pressure on the front of my shoulders and stretches/exercises - took one visit and 10-14 days of stretching for 10 minutes a day. Worked wonders.

Sitting reading this I'm dropping my head and a bit hunched to look at my phone and I feel my back and shoulders! Need to concentrate on being straight for a while!

Is your heart ok? "Left sided pain", "gets worse under labour", etc? Not wanting to scare or whatever but just a thought- maybe a&e to see what they say - quick scan to make sure it isn't that?

It's not my heart, it's a muscle/nerve pain that got worse from doing the physical stuff not during it but after, just back from sitting in the car for and hour and a half while my daughter done swimming club and it's pretty sore again I really need to try and keep my head up as that's definitely one of the things that makes it worse, probably should have got out and walked about instead of reading my kindle but it was a bit chilly!

Becoming more aware of what's causing i, need to limit the sitting, slouching and looking down and see how that goes.

The more I think about it I'm blaming the amount of time I've spend staring at my phone and iPad.
