Night Time Headaches

I had my appendix out a couple of weeks ago and since then I've been waking up in the middle of the night with a thumping headache. If I get up and have a cup of tea with some paracetamols it passes but I'm not sure if it's something sinister or the after effects of the anesthetic. As I've been on antibiotics I've not been allowed to drink alcohol so can't be that but that's what it feels like although I didn't suffer hangovers before. I'm 55 and otherwise fit and healthy.

Frontal lobe? Low blood sugar possibly. Elsewhere, could be dehydration.

Back of the head/top of the neck. I feel hydrated when I go to bed but get up every night for a wee anyway so maybe could drink more without any problems.

Tension headaches
Tension headaches, the most common type, feel like a constant ache or pressure around the head, especially at the temples or back of the head and neck. Not as severe as migraines, they are not usually accompanied by nausea and vomiting, and they rarely stop someone from continuing their regular activities. Over-the-counter treatments, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen (Tylenol), are usually sufficient to treat tension headaches, which experts believe may be caused by contraction of neck and scalp muscles (including in response to stress), and possibly changes in brain chemicals.

I got tension headaches when I was struggling with anxiety, my scalp just went really tight felt it most in the temples and top of head also my face was getting pins and needles.

Not pleasant it does seem to start from the neck I think.

Went to bed last night fully hydrated and with a drink by the bed. Got up four times for a wee and with a thumping headache the last time. I don't feel particularly tense and never had it before my appendectomy. Could it be related?

Get to the Doc.

I'd be terrified of headaches after surgery. The hypercondriac in me is screaming blood clot.

I bet it's just stress from all the goings on you have had though.

However you are over 50. Go to the Doc and get an MOT.
