Downs syndrome pre screening

We had the results of the blood test on our 16 week baby today. 1 in 5 chance of Downs with 74% accuracy. Wife is 37, one child already.
We're booked in on Monday to have Non Invasive Pregnancy Testing where the blood is analysed in the US for the extra chromosome and gives a yes/no result with better than 99% accuracy. Result in 8-10 days.
If a yes result then we have some serious thinking to do. Anyone else been here?

yep we've been there, had the same 1:5 from the initial blood tests wife was same age, after picking up a couple of other markers in subsequent scans one of our consultants persuaded us to have an amino, got confirmation for DS in 24 hours. For us there was never a question of what we should do.Charlie is nearly 3 and a half now, I wouldn't change him for the world

I haven't quite been there - I did have a disabled child (by adoption, so a positive choice rather than chance), and she died, about a decade earlier than expected, at 29 months old - not a likely thing you would face with your baby. I would do it all again tomorrow if I got the chance. All of it. Even the end bit, which brought me as near destruction as I can imagine getting without actually going over the edge myself.
All of the things that are wonderful about parenthood will not change based on whether or not this would-be child has DS, or indeed any other condition. (My daughter had very, very, very severe cerebral palsy related to a brain injury, which also caused difficulty with breathing.) I actually was not expecting anywhere NEAR as 'normal' a parenting experience as the one I got, and I experienced a lot of things with her that I was fully at peace with never getting to have but which found ways to happen anyway - lots of mundane little things that made up a really wonderful 15 months as a family. I still cannot believe we made it to a family holiday 250 miles away with her, but we did, and it was amazing. She went up a mountain and dipped her toes in a loch and left tiny, wonky footprints all over a whole swathe of the world.
I'm not going to say it's all going to be sunshine and butterflies because nobody's life is like that, no matter what the specifics. But babies, all babies, even mine who never mastered several things that nondisabled newborns do without difficulty (but did get the hang of indicating by eye movement which of several stories she'd prefer...) are more like each other than they are different, and so are the experiences of us, the parents.

We had the Nifty test done recently and had made our mind up prior to getting it done what we would do. Results were back in 5 days from Hong Kong & were all good fortunately.
Nobody can tell you what to do, it's a personal decision whatever happens. I'm sure it'll be all good for you

Probably not the same with harmony as it was with our amnio, Di just got a phone call from our specialist midwife giving the results. As flying said, no one else can make the decision or tell you what is the right or wrong thing to do. Charlie is no different to any other little boy, he just does things at his own slightly slower chilled out pace, yeah it does hurt when we see kids his age doing things that he can't do yet (he doesn't really have any words yet but he is great at signing and can tell us what he wants) but he'll get there
Yup been there, got bad news.
We were 38 at the time and Our eldest was then 10 months.
We had discussed what we would do in these circumstances before we had any children and agreed that we would not continue with the pregnancy in the circumstances. After much soul-searching we stuck with that decision.

1978 , our first child, Katie has Downes. We were stunned, hurt, afraid. Today she'a a 37 grown up woman , lives with us , believes in Santa, yet teases us that he's not real. She wins, gets a present from Santa and from us. Our next two kids are normal. She has a great quality of life and we'd not trade her for the world.
