Trigger finger, what will help?
Discussion
Afternoon,
I've got trigger finger in my right ring finger. Had it since December, it's not as painfull now, but it's a sickly feeling when it clicks. I don't want the operation, so do I rest it, splint it, excersize it or just use it? I have made a sort of splint out of polymorph, this has helped but am I doing the right thing in the long run?
So has anyone else had this, and have you any advice you can offer please.
By the way, I'm ready for the onslaught of jokes and puns, bring 'em on. :-)

Same here, on both second fingers. It worked fine but after 6 months, r.h. digit 2 is back to triggering. Old age!
That was my next question actually, if 'if' I had the courage to go for the injection, how long does the effect last? Is it just a very good painkiller?
I've googled it, and apparently it's a knotted tendon that can't get through a tendon sleeve. Makes sense. My finger is swollen, I was just hoping for a cure by rest.
Yes old age is a b:tch!

No, it isn't a painkiller, it's a corticosteroid that reduces the inflammation that makes the tendon sheath tighten up. Is it just a very good painkiller?

It isn't majorly traumatic...I found a similar injection into my basal thumb joint was very painful 'cos it's a tight location to inject. The TF jabs were nothing.
Google NHS Choices and Trigger Finger Treatment for the full story.
In my view, old age may be a b
h but the alternative is worse!Gassing Station | Health Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
