Plated arm discomfort

Back in 2006 I was in an accident at LeMans and ended up with various broken body parts etc. The French did a great job of putting me back together with some Mechano and all has been well since. However, my left arm has felt week ever since and if I have to put pressure on it in a pushing motion, there's an unpleasant pain/discomfort. One of those that seems worse as you start to back off the pressure. Unfortunately my job means I use this pushing motion quite a bit!
I assume bones are designed to flex and I'm wondering whether this is the problem....it might not be flexing. Anyone with experience or knowledge of this sort of thing? I do know some people have their plates removed, but don't know the reason.

a) did it heal? because they don't always and the plate does the work
b) is the metalwork all in one piece, or is it or parts of it loose?
To answer your question, yes the plates are much more stiff than bone. They are usually made of 316L steel and whilst this is tough and scratch resistant, the Young's Modulus (or bendyness) is much different to bone. Either that or something like Ti-6Al-4V Titanium which is quite scratch sensitive and not neccessarily better than 316L. So it could be giving a problem. Most plates don't and we leave them all in now, so it shouldn't be the problem
You need some fresh Xrays and a shoulder surgeon really.

Excellent advice from the man who knows! I suppose I should start the ball rolling with a visit to my GP. I want to find out how my hip is doing too, as the socket broke out during the crash. It was never replaced as I'd had too many other issues & I believe it would have been one op too many. I was put in traction instead & told it would be arthritic within a year.
