Care in old age ?

Just after some suggestions, my grandma is 91 and very frail/infirm though still sharp mentally, situation is she lives round the corner from my mum and she bought the bungalow next door to my auntie after my grandad died, so all close together.

She was managing ok on her own, but with some help, however, earlier this year she suffered a blod clot in her arm which has weakened it to the point of it being almost useless, she was put on blood thinners to avoid further clots, she has an artificial shoulder, dodgy feet, poor eyesight and various other ailments.

My mum and auntie have ended up full time carers since the clot and subsequent operation, they were just getting her so she could be left when she had a fall and caused her quite a lot of bruising, it also dented her confidence so now my mum spends all day with her and my auntie covers the nights which is unsustainable and not doing them any good.

I think really she should be in a care home, after the operation she had some time in one but she obviously doesnt want to but my mum and auntie cant really cope with 7 days a week.

Any suggestions as how to mitigate the situation ?

Had exactly this a couple of years ago with my gran. Have you seen the cost of care homes?

We ended up employing a lovely Philipino live-in carer and it was less than half the cost of a care home. This was partly influenced by the fact my gran refused to go into a care home and never wanted to move out of her house.

Worth looking into. We had a great experience, she was very well looked after 24/7 and the cost, shared amongst the family was more then bearable.

She does seem to need extensive care, think there is an element of quite liking being waited on as well.
