Right, time to have another go at cracking my Old Holborn and cigar habit. I've been smoking on and off since the very early 1970's and apparently there's a body of opinion that inhaling tobacco smoke may not actually be all that good for you.

Just spent a hour looking at vaping kit on the net and think it might be a plan to give it a go, but where to start? Looks to me like the whole scene is more of a Hipster fashion accessory with weird flavors and Brownie points for the ever increasing amounts of steam you can exhale rather than serving the needs of a serial nicotine junkie like me.

So where to start and what's closest to actually setting fire to some tobacco without spending a fortune giving it a go and then binning all the vaping kit if it's not for me?

Cheers Chaps thumbup

I don't smoke but I'm almost tempted to take up vaping as the magic flute thingys look like a great gadget + when you get a waft of someone's vape the fruity smell is not unpleasant. Maybe I could use it as an actual gateway into smoking so I can look proper hard in front of my mates biggrin

I drove past someone yesterday and thought he'd suffered spontaneous combustion, such was the size of the cloud of smoke he generated.
He looked so proud.

Personally, I would pop in to one of the many vaping shops around and ask for some advice.

I've got a 2200mAh battery that lasts for days, and I buy disposable atomiser tanks for £2.50 for 5 from amazon, and the fluid for £1.00 a 10ml bottle from Liquid (again on the internet).

It costs me about £5-10.00 a month instead of the £5.00 a day for my previous 10 a day habit.

I've only had one cigarette in the last 11 months, when I was a little bit tipsy and forgot that I'd given up.

Is it anywhere near smoking though?
I've tried and failed a couple of times to replace my smoke with vapor and just didn't get on with it.
Without diving into the saga that is the vaping thread, what am I doing wrong?

It fits the routine and stops the cravings. I successfully quit using a vape. It was more about breaking association. Use it at the times when you're likely to need a smoke. For me it was when working at home. Coffee, smoke, coffee, smoke...

Once I'd used the vape enough to break the association I was basically free. 3 years ago now.

I don't have any experience of it, but I'd imagine there must be NHS help around this, might be worth speaking to your GP.

Been vaping for a few yeas here, although i did start smoking again when i travelling for a few months recently. When i got back, I was straight back onto vaping with no issues.

The trick for was good quality equipment and juice.

Kangertech sub ohm gear really packs a punch and is very good value. Get a subvod mini or mega and it should do you good.

The next important part is good juice! I only ever use 3mg which is the lowest nicoine, but get stuff i really like.

The crunch from sleekit juices is £15 for 100ml and tastes great! I also like decoded davinci for special times as it costs £17 for 30ml... a bit expensive for daily vaping.

It definitely works, I vape instead of smoking when I'm down the pub, my lodger has quit a 12g/day rolling tobacco habit (chain smoker) and hasn't combusted since he started vaping last autumn. I was recommended the Kanger subtank mini over on the other thread back last year, which I bought and am still happy with although one thing I have noticed with vaping is that the technology moves at a very rapid speed, and therefore it's not surprising that it's a pastime that attracts nerdy technofetishists and has the potential to become a hobby in itself once you discover the world of Alien Wire and Clapton coils etc.

As a way to quit smoking it is very helpful but the good thing about vaping is it is also a safer and more pleasant alternative to smoking and once you find the right juice for your tastes and requirements, and get over any self-conciousness about how silly you must look tootling away on a robot space-flute you will quickly find that smoking just isn't as nice, and the desire to do so will tail off very quickly indeed. As far as choosing a juice goes, flavour is only a small part of an equation that includes vapour amount, 'throat hit' ie similarity to actual smoke and nicotine level, calibrated to suit your vaping equipment. It's a little daunting at first but there's a wealth of websites and YouTube content out there and the staff in most vape shops are generally knowledgeable and helpful.

It's a good way to stop smoking. I was a 30 a day B&H guy. Started by trying the disposable ones that look like cigarettes. No good at all, just didn't deliver enough nicotine and it didn't 'feel' like smoking. Got some good advice from the e-cig thread and bought some decent kit - started using it in September 2014 and haven't had a single cigarette since.

Top tips:
- Use high nicotine fluid (24mg) to start with. You can reduce this over time if you want, but I find with lower strength liquids I just vape more.

- Get a variable voltage / variable wattage battery, so you can adjust the strength to your liking. The ones I use are called iStick - you can get them on Amazon.

- I use atomisers called iclear 16, also from Amazon. Simple to use and disposable.

- This stuff is cheaply made in China and it doesn't last forever. Make sure you have lots of spare atomisers and at least one spare battery.

Get fluid from your local vape shop - you can usually try before you buy. I started out with the tobacco flavours but now find the fruity ones much nicer.

Good luck.

my current juice is dark chocolate, hazelnut and cigar leaf. If you've ever been into cigars like Meharis mild and sweet or something like that, or just like chocolate, it's a treat!

No

I've tried a few times and cannot get on with them, you're more than welcome to come have a beer & try one of my cast offs biggrin

Apart from the fact that the vapour hurts my eyes, I miss the whole lighting and stubbing it out process. I'm not that bothered about the actual 'smoking' anymore frown
