Hi all, on Tuesday evening I took a sharp impact to the tip of the ring finger on my right hand. It swelled up by about 50% in size and was very painful until it went numb about 5 minutes after the impact.

Yesterday it went a deep purple colour and was still numb.

Today it's gone a ligher colour, although the colour behind the nail is now light purple (was normal pink yesterday) and doesn't change colour if pressed. It's still numb.

Whilst the numbness is a blessing for pain reduction, I'm concerned that it's still numb after this long.

Do I need to get it looked at?

yep, might be a good idea, have you 'price'd it? do you feel feverish? shortness of breath? on any medication?

Thanks. smile

No medication, no fever, no more than normal lethargy. I'm hoping the swelling is just pinching the nerve, hence the numbness. It certainly looks/feels as though the finger has swollen up as much as the skin would allow.

I'll try to get seen at the local drop-in centre this afternoon.

Went to the drop in today, had an X-ray and it's a pretty clear fracture.

Left in a splint, but annoyingly have to go to the fracture clinic at the local hospital asap - if I'd have known that, I'd have gone there today instead if the drop in.
