So I've been trying to lose weight for a couple of years, and lets just say it's always fluctuated.

I've been doing well over the last couple of months, however because I'm getting busier and busier the diet is slipping as is the exercise.

It's my birthday tomorrow, I'm 31, and it's going to be the last year that I'm fat.

So the aim..... is to lose 60kg over the coming year through good old healthy eating and exercise. My current weight is 173kg and my target is 113kg

The simple fact is that I eat too much, takeaways and sugar. So, as I said, I'm going to blog what I eat and how I train over the next year here, mainly hoping that you lot will keep me in check when temptation is high and motivation is low.

There are a few events I've got lined up, but I have to have an operation before I can complete them.

I'll be updating this blog daily, and with the weight weekly. I'll also try and find a way to sink my garmin, and myfitness pall with it.

60kg - wow. Go for it.

One of my ex colleagues went from c120kg to under 80kg in around a year. He was very clear on diet and graduated exercise ie started with slow short walk, and built up from there.

He too had too many pizzas and pies to get to 120kg in the first place.

He is a numbers guy, so used apps and data to track everything - I think partially to keep himself on track, as well as to record it

Good luck buddy, it is do-able and you will become addicted with the results and losses you begin to see!

I've battled weight alot, my biggest being 142kg and I got myself down to 92kg with alot of hard work and a little help of some fat burners (which you can no longer get).

I'm having a struggle at the moment as I MUST lose 20kg over the next 4 months, but the biggest battle is not the training or the meals, it is the mind!

Keep us updated smile

Best of luck, I think the first month will be the hardest - you'll possibly feel like you've been really good from a diet and exercise perspective and yet the scales might not show much if any loss, which will be extremely frustrating.

However, if you tick with it and start seeing the results - on the scales first and then in the mirror - then it becomes much easier to stick at.

Good luck!

Good luck, there's me wanting to lose 4kg!! Bookmarked to see your progress..

It might be worth starting as you have the momentum (all 173kg of it smile ), but do try and speak to your GP about such a drastic change.
It can be done (watch the US program about Chris Powell and his work).

This could be the start of an epic thread..

Exciting! You've got a great opportunity to do something very special!

I have competed in a few transformation contests and come in the top 3 a few times. I'm about 108kg at the moment which is a little heavier than I want to be but not to bad.

I used to read a few pages of these threads each day about other folk who have made huge changes to their bodies!
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=108...

I just do the basics but I believe that larger folk in particular get a great boost in weight loss by weight lifting. Focusing on lifting and adding cardio to it can result in huge changes.

Good luck and if I can help, let me know! smile

You can lose the weight without killing yourself in the gym, but it will help towards weight loss. The key is your diet, I have lost 28kgs in a year with a diet change, I started at 130kgs and was possibly pre diabetic, sleeping poorly, prone to colds and generally had little "get up and go". The change I made was a low carb, nil sugar, higher use of fat. This can be found on the Internet with a bit of research under search for Banting diet, ketogenic.
Results have shown in some cases to reverse a type 2 diabetes diagnosis and with it becoming widely accepted in SA,USA and OZ it is getting easier to choose food in restaurants, supermarkets etc the only down side in my view has been a severe restriction on alchohol consumption (most of which are full of sugars).
A good book to get and have a read is The real meal revolution, with Prof Tim Noakes.

I lost around 40kg in the last 18months (120+ to 79kg), it got easier and easier as I got used to the exercise. Walk lots and don't obsess over your eating. One thing at a time.

I am on a 60kg battle again, for the third time. I would totally agree with this comment.

Exercise is key and the more you lose the easier it gets.

fantastic, well done. I am trying to get from 109kg to about 90kg (I was 80kg-odd for much of my late teens and twenties). Started in April with couch to 5k, and now 105kg. Would like to be there before my 40th in february. Keep us infomed and we'll support you.

(also look for other forums. reddit has a good forum for help).

I started with lots of walking everyday
Then cycle commute/some golf/badminton
Then c25k
Now it's cycle commute, running >20miles/week plus 2 gym strength sessions
Now I have reasonable fitness I am looking to mix it up more: swimming, maybe tennis. Try and enjoy it. Good luck

Very best of luck.

Others have mentioned My Fitness Pal; I used it to help me lose just 6.5kg in six weeks.

I also used this to work out my TDEE (using only Mifflin St Jeor formula) and hence my net calorie requirements to lose that weight. It's very useful.

Hello,

Sorry for the long time since starting this thread, lots and lots of things going on, with working full time and setting up a new company.

I'm going to try and update this daily from now on. Though I said that in the first post and here is my second post in 2 weeks. So, not much has happened in the last 2 weeks. I had my birthday weekend, which was a write off, and last weekend I popped to Amsterdam to see a friend. However, I have been concentrating on my diet, cutting out the sugar and jumped on the scales this morning and was 170.5kg.

In March this year I went to the doctor after failing a work medical for my PTS course and was diagnosed with high blood pressure and as being diabetic. At that time I was 186kg, since then I lost the weight stated, my blood pressure has returned to normal and my blood sugar levels droped from 85 to 50 which is the top end of being prediabetic, all without medication.

So I've been so busy recently I've stopped exercising, but I'm going to phase it in over the next week or two and kick start the weightless again. I know, when I am eating right, and exercising I loose about 2-3kg a week.

I track my exercise using my garmin watch, it's pretty accurate for everything I do, I'm used to swiming 2km, cycling about 50km a day and walking a lot.

Having thought about my goals, I've set myself a goal of being 125kg by march next year. So a loss of 45kg in 7 months which should be doable if I'm strict. Why march next year? well I'm best man at a wedding and would be nice to be in shape.

My planned weekly exercise routine will be 60km on the bike 3 times a week, a couple of 6km plus walks and 3 times swimming 2km. On top of this I also do 3 no Tabata work outs in the morning.

1 cycling, 1 push ups and weighted squats and another mountain climbers and kettle bell swings. If I achieve 60% of he planned exercise and keep my diet in check then I should lose the weight OK. I will start incorporating heavy Olympic lifts in to my routine once the new business is up and running in October. Until then I have no time.

Tomorrows plan, is soup for breakfast and lunch, because thats what I have to finish. THen for dinner I have 6 friends round for the weekend so I'll try and have something with no carbs for dinner depending on what happens.

Exercise wise tomorrow, I will go for a 8km hike with a weighted back pack, and I'll be riding 28km back from work.

I can't believe the weight you are and the amount you are able to cycle. You must have a reasonable level of fitness?

Wow, 186kg! That is a hell of a weight there mate. Great work on getting to 170 so far.

I was 148 at my highest and now at 114kg, my lowest has been 106.

I 'cheated' and had a gastric band fitted 4 years ago, it made a hell of a difference and although I still have to watch what I eat I do find it easier.

I need to start doing more exercise too, I want to get to 100kg really.

Good luck mate, I'll keep watching the thread!
