Just found out my dad's got cancer

On the day of my dad's 67th birthday I have just found out that he's got pancreatic cancer. The doctor has said he potentially has up to 5 years to live but that's if the cancer hasn't spread and they don't know that just yet. Life can really deal you a s

Remember folk make the most of each day, life is so so precious.t, sorry to hear that.My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and having a loved one tell you about the big C really knocks the wind out of you, perhaps make some big plans with your parents for the next couple or years, big family holiday etc make some more strong memories.

I don't know which is worse, being told you have X amount of time left or being knocked down by the proverbial bus and killed instantly.
At least with the former you can plan ahead and get your affairs in order.
My dad was given five years with (prostate) cancer, he was 100% fine for four years nine months, then went down pretty fast although he was nearly eighty.
Chin up, he might go on for years and years with modern medical advances...

The guy I work with had his Pancreas misfire in a most spectacular way, not cancer but he dropped to 11 stone, he is 6 foot 4, he turned yellow and was in hospital for months but thankfully and amazingly he has got back to mostly full health, never give up, things arent always as bleak as they seem, people do survive this and in the meantime, as has been said, make the most of things.

t card to be dealt.Sad news, I remember when my mum was diagnosed (Christmas Eve which was pretty st), she was only given six months but got on an experimental drug programme and lasted ten. If it is really bad news then learn about palliative care and hospices as they can really help at such a terrible time.

Hearing that a loved one has cancer is a real shock I was devastated, it was my daughter in my case, but she is fine now and advances in cancer treatment and care are improving all the time so try to remain positive for your dad, though I know it is difficult.
I hope the prognosys is wrong and he has many more years with you.
