I have a walking app that says it is 1.8 km from my house to the train station. London Bridge to work is 2.69 km and work to Cannon Street is 1.21 km. I do this every day so that would put me at 37.95 km a week or just over 23 miles a week, that can't be right.

I can't believe I am walking nearly 100 miles every four weeks, just going to work and back.

Why can't you believe it? Are you a right fat bd who can't see his winkle because of the huge gut?

Or do you think the measurement is incorrect?

Other mapping and measuring solutions may have the answer

How do you get to your weekly number? Sounds like you do 11.4km per day?

I assume he does this 5 times a week
home -> station -> london bridge -> work (4.49km)
work -> cannon street -> station -> home (3.01km)

Gets 37.5kms total.

Any walking is good, but its much better if you push the pace up and get a bit of heart rate going.

According to my phone app Im covering an average of 10 miles a day between going to and from work and whilst at work.
Most of the time at work is at a reasonable pace (waiter) so doing 23 miles a week is really not that much

What a really odd thing to say.

That's it, just seems a high number.

Apologies, I misunderstood. My walks don't seem that long, but I still average around 8k per day on a working day.

Its funny I do an 11km walk every now and then and as I have a week off soon was going to set myself a challenge of walking 20 miles in a week. Then I looked at the numbers and I exceed that every week.

This. which is also part of the problem because I assume you are suited and booted for work so a sprint walk wont be much fun. Start timing yourself and give yourself a goal of 20% less time

Other than the obvious music pun.

8 minutes per k is more than "Quite quickly"

Often people say 4 MPH is normal walking pace but i'd go so far as to say that "Normal" walking pace is closer to 2 MPH and to sustain 4MPH takes quite an effort for many.

4mph is normal walking pace but for short burst of time. To be able to sustainably walk at just over 4mph is quite good going

Over the 9miles of the London Loop section 3 I averaged about 10 minute per km. That is up and down, pavement and grass and tracks etc But that includes stopping to get a water bottle out and have a drink, taking photos and enjoying the view.

When we went to Disney World last year we were averaging about 18km a day and we had a 5 year old with us walking that too. He slept well.

It can easily and effortlessly add up. Be grateful that you're thinking "that can't be right" rather than wishing you were actually clocking up more. biggrin

Good practice for the Camino De Santiago if I ever get round to doing it.

Just got to make sure I don't get lost like these did

Chuck in some hills and a pack weighing at least 20% of your body weight.

That'll get you fitter!
