Has anyone had a cystoscopy performed?

I have had one.

I had a general anaesthetic - not by choice, it was just the procedure they followed at the hospital I went to.

A colleague, by coincidence, had a cystoscopy only a couple of weeks after mine. They used local anaesthetic where he went, apparently.

I was glad I had a general.

Yes. I have had it done three times.

First time they peeled me off the ceiling ( the pain).

Next two times I had it done under full anaesthetic. No problem then.

My dad had it done a couple of times and said it was akin to having a hose pipe pushed up there....l good luck

I am a regular victim of this torture. It does get less embarrassing over the years and it's a relief to get the all clear. You get your Willie swabbed with cold germicide then the pen sized scope is lubed with Novocain type gel and inserted. Discomfort rather than pain mixed with anxiety, much wiggling of the fingers helps. You have to pee before being discharged and this can sting a bit so be prepared.

No need to worry, it's not as bad as it sounds, uncomfortable rather than painful IME.

A bit of soreness for a day or so then back to normal, no worse than having a tooth filled.

OTOH the ultrasound scan people need to stop keeping their gel in the freezer!

Cavalier? Make sure you wash carefully under the flange.

It was more uncomfortable than painful.

Thanks guys- as predicted I don't know if I'm more reassured by the comments or terrified. I have put it off for so long but it just needed doing in the end.

It isn't too bad at all, first time I had it done I went a little light headed but subsequently it's no big deal ... Least you won't know the person doing it, it's one of my colleagues nurses who has performed mine repeatedly and I have endured it with student nurses present which is a killer

A cystoscopy is not really that bad. If they move on to do a urethrotomy it isn't as nice. See my thread lower down about waiting for a urologist appointment.

I'm back and still alive. Glad it's done- came back all clear- would I want to do it again? No.

Peeing now is quite painful but glad it's all clear!

I have it done every 6 months and will probably have it done for the rest of my life. It really isn't that bad. Sounds worse than it is. It is also over with within 4-5 mins max.

It stings a bit after, but bearing in mind what is going up there, it isn't a surprise
