Started going to the gym again and sometimes it's convenient to go when it opens in the morning. Is this a good idea and if it is how should I prepare? Have breakfast before or not? Only doing running and cycling not weights.

Fasted cardio can help you get leaner if that's what your after, if you are looking to add performance try a pre workout shake. It's horses for courses to be honest, I do early morning cardio and kettle bells on just coffee

I've done similar in the past when I can't train later in the day. Have breakfast afterwards.

fasted gym for me even if it's 1pm. First meal at 3pm now. Works wonders. Coffee excepted

I'll get up and run outside on an empty stomach, IE straight up and out, but my range suffers beyond sort of 5 miles and I feel very hungry, but i'm a eat breakfast as soon as I fall out of bed kind of guy normally.

Tried not having breakfast this morning, just coffee and felt fine. Aiming for couch to 5k in 30 minutes and 10 mile bike in the same time, bearing in mind I haven't run anywhere since I was at school.

I'm doing couch to 5k at the minute W5D3 today eek

It is a fantastic program for couch potatoes, to go from struggling to run for 90 seconds to today (20 minutes) is something I think I would have struggled to do without the C25K

If I'm going out for a run in the morning or bootcamping on my day off in the morning, I will always do it on a coffee and sometimes a banana half an hour beforehand, that is it.

Caffeine is a good pre-workout stimulant that a lot of people use ahead of exercise.

Some people prefer fasted, some prefer eating, the best thing is just to do whatever works for you. Try each and see which suits you. If you start to stall then mix it up either in when you eat, what you eat, how long, how you train etc..

I've done both in the past. Ended up just having mine when I got to work.

Mainly because I hate getting up early and I don't sleep to well 15 min extra sleep was worth it biggrin

Wish I could still train in the mornings.
