I have a fasting blood test tomorrow morning at 7.30am. Part of the NHS well man thing as my BMI is 30.5

Thing is, there's a massive bag of M&M's in the office I have been eating them all day.

If I stop now is it too late? Have I buggered up the blood test already?

Its a 6 mile bike ride home, does that help?

I suppose it depends on whether you're interested in the results or not.

You could try this

You're eating M&M's all day, why would you bother with a blood test? or any sort of test?

Its supposed to be a 12 hour fast, so I have until 7.30pm tonight.

Not sure how long sugar stays in the blood.

It's a 12 hour fast for a reason. not 16+ hours.

Although, with all due respect, there's a strong sense of irony in this one. You basically have been told you're overweight, and for health reasons they've asked you to do a blood test, yet you're still eating M&Ms like there's no tomorrow. At this rate, there won't be hehe Sorry if that sounds harsh, you don't need to worry about the M&Ms interfering with the test results, if you stop now, then it will not be an issue.

As it happens I hold a jaffa cake eating record, 48 in 17 mins.

Stopped eating at 7 last night (Huge meat feast pizza with added achovies and a pile of onion rings). Nurse said it would be fine. Gave the blood sample at 7.30 this morning.

If it makes you feel any better today has been a very bad day for me. In a 15-20min period at lunch I managed to scoff a whole large tub of Ben and Jerry's.

I've also eaten about 250g of Tesco Finest Caramelised salted mixed nuts (utterly divine!!)

and after dinner I had a wagon wheel. Oh, and a small kit-kat.

Oh dear!!

All delicious but it is utter poison in any quantity with any regularity, lay off it and give your Pancreas a bit of a rest.

Watched a girl at work putting sugar on Frosties a while back, I mean, WTF, even Cornflakes are full of sugar.

Am I right in saying that you told yourself "Just two scoops" then thought "another won't hurt" followed by "might as well finish the tub now" followed by immense guilt at the 1 000 calorie snack?

No, I knew I'd polish the lot off.

In fairness, I do this quite infrequently....My diet in general is VERY good (at least 10 of my "5 a day" and rarely eat any chocolate, biscuits, snacks, ice cream etc so I do binge once a month or so.

For the record, I tend to cycle nigh on 200 miles a week (give or take...more in the summer) and I only weigh 8 stone 7lbs.....but I'm only 5ft 6, so I'm no lard arse smile

If the big bag of M&Ms were the peanut variety, it's a good job you were giving a blood sample rather than a stool sample..

Eating sugar before an HBA1c test will make little difference as its a measure of your sugar levels over the past 16 weeks or so. I'll be a little surprised if it doesn't come back saying you are diabetic. Take advice from someone who didn't listen - lose your weight and you won't be or won't be at risk of being diabetic. Try to lose weight rather than go on meds if you can.

I didn't take it seriously and now have thousands of laser shots in my eyes to stop bleeds and despite an attempted bypass on my leg it failed and I'm now legless!

I've just done a similar NHS healthcheck - height 6'1", weight 96 kg (15 stone in old money), BMI of 28 or something. My waist is 34! Not sure I'd trust this BMI thingy.

Good advice - reduce or eliminate animal products including dairy & eggs and eat plants. Lots of them.

Well documented doesn't 'suit' for athletic/body builder types.
WHtR seems a little more reliable.
