OK all, grateful for advice.

I have, since the age of 17 enjoyed beer. A lot. Cold Stella usually, but anything cold and strong lager type.

Now, over recent months I seem to have developed an inotolerance to it. I am able to drink wine, G&T etc without problem (for example last night had a g&t and then shared a bottle of white with the wife) but even one lager brings me out in a massive rash on my back, chest and face and after only two I am apparently "slurring like a drunk".

Any ideas on this one? Yeast allergy? Something else? Liver numbers all fine................

My mates partner recently became intolerant to certain things. She like proper beer though ;-) She can't have the normal craft beers she used to love but did find some half decent beers in Mark & Sparks which were gluten free. Might have a gluten allergy?

I'd probably get tested at the docs though, adults can develop allergies and it pays to know what things to avoid.

Yeah, no problem at all. I did think about that but I have no issues with pasta etc.

Something about stella affects me more mentally than other beers and seems to make me drunker quicker than others too. To the extent that I haven't touched it in years and years. Maybe thats catching up with you too (i.e the slurring after two bit).
Try something else.

I had the same a number of years ago, started with week long hangovers then the rash started. Stopped drinking, and haven't drank since. That was over 5 years ago.

It was slightly worse for me being diabetic, so was playing havoc with my health.

BIL is allergic to certain lagers; Stella being one, he starts sneezing when drinking it, it is quite funny.

Jas may be onto something. A lot of the generic mass produced beers are a chemical s***storm and could be some artificial additive that's setting you off. As mentioned, I believe German beers are not allowed to deviate from the standard natural ingredients by law.

Two of my friends developed an allergy to brewers yeast. (Had loads of tests etc). Once they knew what it was they just carried on & regarded the symptoms as an extra hangover biggrin

Just out of interest, does the same thing happen if you drink proper beer, or is it only lager that does it?

It's beer in general although some are worse than others.

1664 is the worst for it, Heineken less so, but all lagers and beers have the same effect.

Maybe I am allergic to brewers' yeast, or hops??!

Dunno mate - not thought about it to be honest. Gin and wine are fine.

All a bit odd, but I guess it could be an additive in different brands.

I'll try some gnarly ale tonight.

I also appear to have an intolerance to Beer.

Although it's excessive flatulence, not a rash. Apparently it's not funny after about 2 days.

I use to get a terrible heat rash on my face and body and my stomach would start to get a cramping sensation. I basically looked like a stop sign.

To get around this I would take a antihistamines tablet in my pocket so if it started I could try and contain it without going back home. Also drinking water helped calm things down.

I noticed when the weather was cold it would happen as soon as I had one spirit.

What it came down to was I had to stop drinking spirits and wine is also off the menu. I can only drink Beer "different from your case" and have not had the same issue again.

I went for the allergy tests and it basically said I was allergic to everything so that helped biggrin

Hi OP, I think I am suffering the same

Always enjoyed a good beer and drunk a fair bit in my time

Couple of years ago I started developing horrid excezma on my legs , it spread to my whole body over 6 months and was grim

The Drs never knew what to do and just gave me stronger steroid cream that had no effect each time, that had no effect

It started keeping me up at night and had covered all my legs and scarred the skin and was so itchy

I had a coeliac test and came back all clear (my mother has coiliac disease)

I already dont really eat dairy

Then I gave up alcohol for 6 months , as I found I was drinking more and more to help me sleep through the itching and felt groggy all the time

Without realising all my excema started to heal and stop, took a few months but it went, im just left with scarred legs and the odd patch

I didnt change anything else bar no booze

I thought I would try booze again over Christmas, to see if it flared up again, but was ok, then I realised I was just drinking wine and spirits, so then I had a few evenings of beer and sure enough my skin was itchy as hell..

Cant really help im afraid, id rather avoid beer and have healthy skin
