(I've created this new account to keep it separate from my normal account)

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced getting exaggeratedly angry over incredibly small things, and is this a sign of depression or other mental health issues?

Probably about once every few months I'll have a week or so where EVERYTHING just makes me angry. All these small annoyances build up until I'll want to smash things, just because of a small thing like my autocorrect corrected the wrong word, or the person next to me is eating too loudly.

When I'm like this I become angry and anti-social, I get annoyed if people try and talk to me, which means I'm a bit too curt at work which isn't good. It also means I can give off an angry vibe to my girlfriend, which she's noticed and commented on.

I find I'll be absolutely fuming by 10am because by the time I've got to work, I've already had 20 things annoy me, that normally wouldn't be an issue. When I'm not having one of these weeks a delayed train or noisy person doesn't phase me. But when I'm having a bad week it'll send me postal.

Generally I'm a fairly rational person, so I'm not sure why I get like this. I shouldn't have to hold myself back from smashing my phone or punching a wall because my colleague types too loudly, or someone has tried to call me (just my phone vibrating infuriates me)

I read that anxiety can put our bodies in flight or fight mode, which can mean you're angrier as you're constantly in 'fight' mode, but I don't feel overly anxious. I wouldn't say I'm depressed either, other than during these odd weeks.

My job isn't overly stressful, I don't have money worries, there's nothing going 'wrong' in my life, other than not being able to control this anger issue.

Anyone else experienced similar?

I feel angered by most people most of the time.

It's pretty normal lol.

Although if it's come on suddenly, see your GP.

Not experienced personally, but my brother had similar recently (1 year ago) and was found to be suffering from high levels of anxiety and stress - he ended up breaking down in his office because he was so angry at 'something' and just couldn't say what it was.

He went to see his Doc and was sent off to see someone - he doesn't say much about it now so I've never found the cause but happily he is much better now, and actually one of the most chilled out people I know.

There will be something behind your feelings, so my advice is to go and see a Doctor and see what they say - the NHS is surprisingly good for this sort of thing I believe.

My mum has bipolar and has been on lithium for a long time so it's interesting that you say that.

Eliminate the simple things first, get your blood glucose checked, you're describing me to perfection if my blood sugar is too high. I'm T2 diabetic.

I do get this occasionally. As you say, when it strikes I am often amazed I haven't killed someone! In me, it seems to build for a few days until I am, effectively at boiling point and will 'go over' in an instant. When I do go postal, I feel guilty and ashamed and get over it/myself rapidly.

I do have depression/anxiety etc and am medicated for it (heavily but it sounds like I should be sectioned! ) and it is rare these days but I went through a period a few years back where the world was not a safe place with me in it.

Get yourself to the Doctors sharpish young man.

Yes, this happens to me every 6 months or so, no idea why, I have also started getting the occasional fluctuating wave of depression/anxiety. I am 31, no history of mental health problems.

In my case, the first few times It has ended with me having a meltdown about something stupid which then leaves me feeling like crap for a couple of days after and then I am fine. The last time It happened I forced myself to "forgive and forget" or "Think calm" when it happens and it lifted a lot quicker.

Yep, most days for the last 10 years or so, got worse the last 12-18 months. I find training hard, bloody hard and using a punch bag helps loads. One of my mates was in a meeting with me once, old job, a director wouldn't listen to my point, my mate said my eyes went blank and I looked like I was going to pull the guys arms off.

My wife reckons I'm getting more and more "grumpy"
I'm 63 and everything annoys me at the minute. For the last few years I've self diagnosed myself as suffering from SAD.
But everything from the sticking zip on my coat, the mud the farmer leaves on the road, my laddy not doing his homework, someone not supplying the right info at work, the dogs not walking to heel........

It does sound like anxiety and can be kept in check by slight changes to your lifestyle, more excercise, earlier to bed, plenty of nutritious food

My missus does this, can hear her carrying on, current ones is the kettle always being empty, where I just fill it and boil it she has a ten minute rant about filling it up when finished but then leaves it empty herself, I just put it down as a task I need to do,

Make brew, Is Kettle full, if not, fill it etc ?

Why moan, it takes more energy to attract my attention and berate me about it than just filling it, I do endeavour to fill it but sometimes I forget or someone else uses it.

Simlarly,

Toilet seats
Car seat moved
Porch light not on

And a milion and one other things

I just get on with life, in her house her dad used to moan about bloody everything, I think it has rubbed off "Oh Whoa is me, for I have been wronged", he used to want attention and partly I think it was being in a big family, we had a quieter method so just fill kettles rather than treating it as some kind of personal sleight.

I'll be honest OP your post sounds like I could have written it.

Every few weeks I'd have a period of time where all the little things really wind me up to the point of angry outbursts.

I'm not sure if it is at all related but recently I've started taking Vitamin D supplements and I've not had a really bad week, I still have periods of annoyance with stuff. But haven't properly blown my top for a while.

Same as you though, I don't have a stressful job or any issues in my day to day life, so no reason for me to be angry with my lot.

I get this too. Much more so lately. Especially walking the kids to school and I see people on their mobiles whilst driving, or pulling up onto kerbs as the kids walk past, or driving too fast. Things I'd let slip in the past but now find myself confronting people about.

First world problems eh? When things start annoying you, think yourself lucky you don't live somewhere like Syria etc.

Take yourself down to your GP. I used to be like that on a daily basis, turns out it was a number of different things causing it. NHS anger management courses are really good.
