DVT Experiences
Discussion
I've recently had two clots in my left leg thanks to some medication I was on. The problem's being treated with blood thinners and I have to wear a compression stocking on the affected leg.
Has anybody here had any experiences with DVT or Post Thrombiatic syndrome? I'd be interested to hear about the long term experience as I find myself quite fatigued and out of breath far sooner than I used to be. Obviously I'm aware of the risk of PE in relation to breathlessness, but it's more like being a fat old knacker at the moment!

I've had several since late teens resulting in long term blocked IVC but no real complication or I'll effects.. On thinners for life or at least when I remember to take them hehe
I do get breathless every now and then on exertion but put that down to being unfit.
Edit the clots themselves were excruciating particularly DVT and at the time very tired and breathless even for maybe two months after. If you are still in the thick of it that might explain your symptoms..?

Hi Mike, please do take a bit more notice of your meds, DVT can be serious. That said, and and you are proof, some people do cope fine with it and it only causes a bit of discomfort when it hits. Yes, lots of people do get it, and get over it fine!
Jon, I hate taking meds, so fingers crossed you don't have to continue taking them beyond your 2 months! All the best with your recovery, shout if you want an ear!

Peanut yes agree.. sorry, didn't mean to sound like I don't think DVT is serious.
I should clarify to say I had several before I was put on thinners and none since that I know of (some of mine only came to light after a scan and were historic). Regardless of medication The best thing I ever did though was give up smoking !

What thinners are you on? Warfarin?
If you're on Warfarin (rat poison) for life, then see if you can get a remote-test machine. Many health authorities are issuing them now and it makes testing for your INR result so much easier and quicker.
I suffered from a PE nearly 3 years ago and was swimming 1200m a day back then. First noticed a heavy pain in my left thigh, especially when sitting down. That was DVT. Found I was becoming very breathless to the point where I could only swim 25m before gasping for breath, which was a little worrying. Then I woke up one morning and coughed up a huge clot, which was enough to get me to my GP and then onto A&E. I've been on Warfarin pretty much ever since and will be for life.
I'd also look up blood-thinning foods. You can help yourself an awful lot with the right diet.
